what's up?

top down

my better half has been on call to go in to work today. he's been binge watching car restoration shows all day. don't know why. they seem so lame and unrealistic. now there's a barrett-jackson auction on.

who really buys those cars? can find very good ones any day at any local show, that are way better. of course, i have a bias for the classic cars. barrett-jackson sells the pns cars, so there's a given for the type of people buying them. sorry, not impressed.

that has nothing at all to do with this car. saw it on new year's day. my better half was chatting with the owner. i was actually going to skip it, i was on chevy overload already. but since we were already standing there, i went ahead and shot it.

beautiful car. that's all i'm saying.

candy

lifestyle cars are all extraordinary. i think its a requirement. meticulous, fantasmic airbrush, pinstriping and details. candy colors and multiple layers of clear coat paint.

they're also usually surrounded by admirers, and i can't get a clean shot edgewise, so i mostly have to pass them by. unfortunate.

caught this one from the back, where one can often find some pretty spectacular airbrush portraits. ok, this one is more fantasy-like. dream on, big boy.

imps

haven't posted a nice impala for a while. this one is pretty tasty. even got my better half doing his thang with the car next to it.

i have several shots of it, but for whatever reason, i like this one best, show a sense of the length of the car. another shot is pushed in closer, and makes the car look stubby, like a carnival mirror, and that can't be good.

topless

i've been binge watching game of thrones. never saw it before, except for bits and pieces online. stayed up late on friday before i remembered i was going to the viejitos show early in the morning. up to the second season now...

was already running on a few hours sleep; went to the fair on thursday. yup, won an honorable mention yet again. always a bridesmaid...i'll post links to the pictures i entered at the bottom of this post. if i remember...

surprised i was conscious early this morning, and actually got up at six. would have happily rolled over and slept a few more hours. but i got up and headed out to the show. my better half carried out the roll over plan and stayed home.

arrived there about sevenish. more empty than i had expected at that hour, but plenty there to start shooting. weather was perfect, cool and overcast. and mostly stayed that way during the whole time i was there.

took lots of pictures, actually talked to several people, which was nice. i think i stayed at least five hours and managed to burn through one battery on my camera, which i don't do very often.

viejitos everywhere...there were many chapters of viejitos clubs that showed up, which was great. i think the farthest i saw was from coachella. also, a few other clubs, more than i can remember, but off the top of my head: old memories, old style, groupe, bomb life, q-vo, solitos, old traditions, and a few more i don't remember.

many, many bombs, so i was happy. good show. not quite as many cars as last year, but enough for me.

i have several that i need to get up here for people who asked, and took time to chat. first one up, is this convertible. only shot i have of it. thought i had another, but i guess not. anyway, if the owner didn't lose my card, i've posted it here if he has any interest in buying a print. sorry, i do not remember which club it was with.

i think he was the guy telling me that his daughter had gotten into photography, and was amazed at how expensive it was...his daughter's equipment was several thousand dollars. yup. it is. so buying a print, is nothing to you, but to me, it goes toward that next piece of glass, or just getting what i have fixed.

i didn't forget. if you do get to the fair, these pics are hanging there until august 10: this, this, this, this, this (this one won), and this.

hail mary, full of grapes

i've been shooting dashboards a lot lately. convertibles, because they're easy. i shoot them if they're interesting.

this one has a dashboard mary instead of the ubiquitous dashboard jesus. makes me think of my better half saying that when he was a kid, and he still went to catholic school or whatever it was, he thought they were saying, "hail mary, full of grapes..." that didn't last very long, after one of the nuns berated him for letting his hair grow long—he never went back—and pretty much has rarely had it cut short since. so there you go, sister. whack you with a ruler.

evening light

spent the weekend in riverside. three day car show. this is from early friday evening, when there were still not so many cars out.

just liked the way the neon played on the car. and gotta love an impala. this one was pretty nice.

later in the dark, the crowd surrounded two cars that blew fire out their pipes. they stood awfully close to two cars that blew fire out their pipes. sometimes people are stupid. nothing happened, other than a lot of noise from the engines, but it would have been interesting if they all had hot dogs on sticks to cook, i think. but that's just me.

small triumph

was wandering around the corn feed run, randomly shooting pictures of stuff i like, when the owner of this little car asked if i could take a picture of it.

he's thinking about selling it. or maybe just wants a picture. if that's the case, feel free to buy it from me, and help pay for keeping this website going.

so, did my good deed, and still had half a show to go...good day, good day.

choppy days are here again

it's so late. had issues logging in here.

long week already, and it's only tuesday. and so very busy at work, i've already put in a couple of overtime days. more to come for the next several weeks. will keep me out of trouble right up until the chicano park show in april, then back for more following that weekend. hamster on a wheel all right...

so quick recap: did three car shows this weekend, though not necessarily all that i wanted to go to. i was extremely fatigued, and i'm suprised i even got out of bed to go anywhere. but i did, and i'm glad, or i would have missed a couple of very good shows.

saturday, got out to the chino corn feed run. liked it a lot. i can't judge the numbers, but there were at least a couple hundred cars up and down the main street and in the parking lots and lawn of city hall and the area surrounding the civic plaza.

bonus that it was just the perfect weekend weatherwise: overcast and cool. so no harsh shadows until later in the day when i was about done anyway, and i didn't die of heat exhaustion.

problem with doing several shows is that i got so many pics, and having to copy them over, back them up, label them, etc. takes a lot of time. and then i'm running out of space on the puter again, so having to back stuff off of that as well. and then deciding which to post...

my better half liked this buick, so it's mostly here for him. he was home all weekend taking care of his mother. good boy. greggie loves his mama...greggie loves his mama...

ok, tired and going to bed for five hours of sleep.
