what's up?

plain and simple

rather like when cars don't get all the bells and whistles that muck up the lines of the car.

last shot before i left the old memories show. sun was high and i was melting.

it is quite nice when the car is buffed to a fine shine. just don't like how it always captures my reflection as well as the lovely tripod.

strike a pose

quick post to start today. upon returning to town yesterday, i went back out to the solitos show down the street. got there after noon, so i suspect a lot of cars had come and gone already.

anyway, i'll get to those cars after a few more from the harbor show.

noting this one, as i hadn't seen any pontiacs in the church lot, and spied it on the way back to my car. always stop to shoot the hood ornaments. as i was pulling out my camera, this lady come out of the house, saying it was her car, and jokingly saying to take a picture of her with her car. ok, why not?

opting not to pull out the other camera, this one had the 100mm lens on it, so i would have had to back up half way down the block to get the whole car in the shot. besides, i had left my bag and tripod in the way, so i hope she doesn't mind this snap of her and her car. you're infamous now, as i don't post too many peeps and their cars here. but you asked, so here you are. nice to meet you, and thanks for letting me snag a picture of your hood ornament.

more to come

i received a request to see some of the club's cars from last week, so i'll post a few. been very busy, and was out of town, so i've been unable to get back to the pictures until now.

first picture i took of the day. up at the front. hard to miss a red car, so i didn't. sky was so wonderfully overcast this early, but soon burned off.

i'll add a few more tomorrow.

----

by the by, i must share that i've had some pictures accepted for the orange county fair again. six to be exact, but only a couple that i had really hoped, and the rest, as usual, no rhyme or reason why they like one over another. and not all car related. as a co-worker said when i told her..."yay, i get to play where's waldo looking for the others..." sorry riverside gary, they didn't choose yours...or yours, armando.

i'll just add any others down here at the bottom.

like a moth

made it out to the old memories harbor area's second annual benefit show in gardena. had been there last year, and really had a good time, with lots of cars. happy to report, same good attitudes, and, i think an even better show. organization was good, lots of wonderful cars and clubs represented. any worry that the ink and iron show would take away cars was unnecessary.

many of the guys remembered me from last year, which was nice. they were all very enthusiastic about the turn out. really nice bunch of guys. and happily, they didn't seem to mind letting me in early. i arrived just before a long line of cars pulled in. i'd seen them assembling down the street in an empty parking lot. almost stopped over there first.

was still overcast and cool at eight am. wanted to get in as many shots as possible before the sun burned through, and started to get to me. i was having a really good time. even better when i discovered there were some very big fans inside the k1 sports building, and that helped a lot.

up front were a couple of rows of the host club's cars. spent a good bit of time with those. pretty stoked that there were so many of the classic cars i love all around the show.

i got a lot of good pictures. i'll start with this one, because its off in the corner, and no one was wandering through the shot. beautiful car. not sure if or which club it belonged to, since i don't remember seeing a plaque.

i know it's a good show when i run through a camera battery, and still want more. yep, i'm the moth, i can't help myself...

i'd stayed for four hours before i knew it. needed to find some lunch and there were still cars driving up as i was leaving, arguing with myself on whether i should come back for more, or get home and get stuff done...flipped a coin...and went home.

looking forward to next year...great show!

just a little

the day has passed so quickly, and i have done nothing at all. ok, tagging along with my better half for lunch and shopping at walmart, doesn't really count. wasn't in my plans at all.

well, i've got pictures enough to play with. hoping to get a picture or two selected for the fair, so i'll prepare those for printing, just in case.

this nash was too cute to pass. almost wanted to pick it up and drop kick it. something different to post.

sahh-weet

been seeing a lot of classic cars driving past the house lately. my own little car show from my window. my better half said like nine old cars in a row drove by this afternoon, heading uptown. cool, but my question is, how is it you're cruisin' and not workin'?

speaking of my better half, this was his choice of cars i shot in pomona. i have too many, and i just can't decide. was either this one or a shiny, chopped buick eight.

got a picture framed for the fair. my better half was uptown, and picked it up for me from the framers'. never used him before; but he was cheaper than fastframe. not perfect, but good enough. my better half was out picking up lunch for his mom, so he ended up sitting with it in the restaurant, balancing it on his feet, hanging onto the hanging wire, while simultaneously trying to text me at work. the thing wasn't wrapped up or corner protected, so he was basically displaying it to everyone. apparently, he got lots of attention. sorry about that d.

his mom is doing much better. so much so, that he is planning on going to rialto on saturday for the run whatcha brung show for a few hours. should be fun.

still not early enough

got my ass out of bed at 5ish last sunday, so i could head out to the pomona fairgrounds for the car show and swap meet before the day heated up. by the time i drove over, sat in the line of cars heading up the hill, parked out in the plural zed alpha of the parking lot and walked over to the show cars by the grandstands, it was already 7:30am. sheesh.

but damn. so many cars. i got going quickly and shot a bunch before i had to take a break from the sun and have breakfast. and cold water. trying to cut back on the coca-cola. and oh how i want to have one. like all the time. probably why i'm so tired all the time now.

anyway, aside from working too much, i spent the other day just sorting through my shots. i got a lot of nice ones, which is both good and bad. i have so many i like, i can't decide what to post.

this fleetline was actually my first shot of the day. used my old wide angle lens to start with, then switched later in the day to the new one. i think this is one of the bridge town oldies sgv cars, but i could be wrong. they were parked at this end of the grandstand, but there were a few that weren't showing any club affiliation mixed in.

i do love a nice fleetline.

gotta get there earlier next time...what's that, get up at like 3 in the morning...errrr.

fortune teller

this car had a lot going on. so i took some shots of it.

the little pics show the airbrushed paintings under the hood and in the trunk. pretty nice. too bad all the chromed hydraulics and engine parts are reflecting so mightily onto the images. guess i would need a big black cloth to cover the chrome to get a proper picture, but this is good enough to give you the idea.

click on one of the pictures to go over to my flickr page to see some other details from the car if you want.

can you tell i got nothin' to talk about? too tired. thought about going to the broiler for a change, but i just didn't have the energy to sit in traffic for another forty-five minutes to get there.

just telling myself: two more days. two more days. then i can sleep in. pomona this weekend i think. same day as my son's birthday, so, thinking i can get up real early and go shoot some pictures before heading down to do something with him. no idea at all what to get him, and i hate shopping...i'm so bad.

hail mary, full of grapes

i've been shooting dashboards a lot lately. convertibles, because they're easy. i shoot them if they're interesting.

this one has a dashboard mary instead of the ubiquitous dashboard jesus. makes me think of my better half saying that when he was a kid, and he still went to catholic school or whatever it was, he thought they were saying, "hail mary, full of grapes..." that didn't last very long, after one of the nuns berated him for letting his hair grow long—he never went back—and pretty much has rarely had it cut short since. so there you go, sister. whack you with a ruler.
