what's up?

auntie freeze

had a busy weekend. better half got called in do work, so he didn't get to have any fun at car shows with me, as originally planned. hope they remember he is out of town when we go to chicano park.

spent all day saturday out at the chino corn feed run. a lot more cars than last year, adding a few more "overflow" lots. and i saw them all. didn't shoot them all, but really, who could?

also stopped at the unidos fundraiser at walnut high school on sunday. annual show. been there twice before. i thought there were more cars this year, but maybe because i got there later than i usually do.

anyway, i'll start by saying i took more pictures than i'll ever get around to doing anything with, as usual. i actually talked to a lot of people, which for me, is really interesting. met a lot of people, and i probably won't remember your name, until i've run into you a few times, but i definitely remember a car.

since i took a lot of pictures, i've posted single exposures of most of the cars on my flickr junkyard. feel free to check them out, and let me know if you think your car is worth polishing up. easier if you view by album.

this impala was really nice. owner offered to put the top down for me, but it was fine as it was. how i found it, how i shot it.

old geez

old car. i like these from the back end. and sometimes the big ass headlights.

----

i may not have made it to a car show today, but i kinda have. at least a half dozen very nice cars have passed through the intersection so far. didn't see them uptown earlier, so i have no idea where they are going, but at least i get to see them for a moment.

blue

sitting here watching cars squealing through the intersection. supposed to come to a full and complete stop. unsurprisingingly, many slow just enough to see no one else is coming, then step on the gas and go.

my favorite spot, i can see old cars, like the sixties pontiac, that just drove by, my personal moving car show. nice tail lights. wow, he turned around and came back through. wonder if he's looking for parking uptown...

mostly i hear a lot of harleys zoom by. but i always look up, because old cars have loud engines too.

better half had to go in to work this evening. maybe i'll drive out and get him some dinner. but first, i'm hunting pontiacs...

pretty impala from chicano park. was only parked here momentarily. he moved it further down the street into the crowd soon after i shot it.

top down

my better half has been on call to go in to work today. he's been binge watching car restoration shows all day. don't know why. they seem so lame and unrealistic. now there's a barrett-jackson auction on.

who really buys those cars? can find very good ones any day at any local show, that are way better. of course, i have a bias for the classic cars. barrett-jackson sells the pns cars, so there's a given for the type of people buying them. sorry, not impressed.

that has nothing at all to do with this car. saw it on new year's day. my better half was chatting with the owner. i was actually going to skip it, i was on chevy overload already. but since we were already standing there, i went ahead and shot it.

beautiful car. that's all i'm saying.

candy

lifestyle cars are all extraordinary. i think its a requirement. meticulous, fantasmic airbrush, pinstriping and details. candy colors and multiple layers of clear coat paint.

they're also usually surrounded by admirers, and i can't get a clean shot edgewise, so i mostly have to pass them by. unfortunate.

caught this one from the back, where one can often find some pretty spectacular airbrush portraits. ok, this one is more fantasy-like. dream on, big boy.

imps

haven't posted a nice impala for a while. this one is pretty tasty. even got my better half doing his thang with the car next to it.

i have several shots of it, but for whatever reason, i like this one best, show a sense of the length of the car. another shot is pushed in closer, and makes the car look stubby, like a carnival mirror, and that can't be good.

topless

i've been binge watching game of thrones. never saw it before, except for bits and pieces online. stayed up late on friday before i remembered i was going to the viejitos show early in the morning. up to the second season now...

was already running on a few hours sleep; went to the fair on thursday. yup, won an honorable mention yet again. always a bridesmaid...i'll post links to the pictures i entered at the bottom of this post. if i remember...

surprised i was conscious early this morning, and actually got up at six. would have happily rolled over and slept a few more hours. but i got up and headed out to the show. my better half carried out the roll over plan and stayed home.

arrived there about sevenish. more empty than i had expected at that hour, but plenty there to start shooting. weather was perfect, cool and overcast. and mostly stayed that way during the whole time i was there.

took lots of pictures, actually talked to several people, which was nice. i think i stayed at least five hours and managed to burn through one battery on my camera, which i don't do very often.

viejitos everywhere...there were many chapters of viejitos clubs that showed up, which was great. i think the farthest i saw was from coachella. also, a few other clubs, more than i can remember, but off the top of my head: old memories, old style, groupe, bomb life, q-vo, solitos, old traditions, and a few more i don't remember.

many, many bombs, so i was happy. good show. not quite as many cars as last year, but enough for me.

i have several that i need to get up here for people who asked, and took time to chat. first one up, is this convertible. only shot i have of it. thought i had another, but i guess not. anyway, if the owner didn't lose my card, i've posted it here if he has any interest in buying a print. sorry, i do not remember which club it was with.

i think he was the guy telling me that his daughter had gotten into photography, and was amazed at how expensive it was...his daughter's equipment was several thousand dollars. yup. it is. so buying a print, is nothing to you, but to me, it goes toward that next piece of glass, or just getting what i have fixed.

i didn't forget. if you do get to the fair, these pics are hanging there until august 10: this, this, this, this, this (this one won), and this.
