what's up?

not pat

my better half got up early and said he'd go with me to the old memories veterans day show this morning. glad he did; i was going to sleep in.

got there while they were still rolling in, and found a good parking place. someday we should really buy a nice old chevy, so we could be sure to get parking without a problem.

show was in a good location and was well organized.

so many cars to choose from, didn't know where to begin. left him shooting a car at one end of the street, and i headed up the other way.

lots of cars i've seen before, and many people i've met before too. my better half sent over a few guys to introduce themselves as well. they always go to him; he's perky, or maybe less scary to talk to.

couple of other guys came over while i was shooting a car. they were chatting with my better half behind me. i vaguely heard someone saying something about the famous pat. i turned around to say huh, realized they were asking me if i was the famous pat. i guessed they meant kat, since they were in the same club as another guy that calls me kat. in that case, yup, me, the infamous kat. lol.

it was a fun day. met lots of guys. lots that want to see pictures. i'm hoping i'll remember which cars i said i'd post. if i talked to you, please send me an email to remind me which car is yours.

i know for sure this guy wanted to see it. i've posted it here, if he happens to want to buy a print of it.

everyone else can go peek at some of the unprocessed pictures here.

taken to trask

i was searching through old files today. got a request to use some pictures for a car show flyer and t-shirt. so that's kind of fun, right? will be interesting to see what they do with them. trusting them not to eff them up. trying hard to not tell them i'll set it up myself. you know what i mean...ever seen really, really badly laid out shirts? so cross your fingers.

anyway, i found this shot of ernie's chevy. it's for sale. maybe it's sold already. saw him with it at pomona last month. chatted a bit, but then totally forgot to shoot a picture of it. so, sorry about that.

this was from march at the garden grove elks club. he was trying to run that show at least once a month. wonder if it's still going?

effected

there's a chevy under there: glitter, chrome, airbrush, pinstripe, reverse doily/lace, glass etching...i dunno...a bit much? interesting, but i don't know where to look first. sorry.

long day, so i'll bite my tongue and stop now.

family affair

i've seen this wagon at a couple of shows now. i liked where it was parked here at the broiler, in a sea of chevys. was hard to get a clean shot of it, as there seemed to constantly be people ogling it. just had to wait patiently, and shoot quick to get it.

need a ladder to get the glitter/airbrushed roof i suppose. i do like the pinstripe curlies on it.

better half's birthday today. he doesn't want cake; pretty sure he wants pie... >:)

requested

wondering around pomona last weekend, early in the morning. sun coming up. his hood down. wishing the guy next to him had done the same, but really liked this fleetline. this car is blue on blue, but the sun hitting it, is making it look green.

apparently, my better half wandered by the same car at some point, and chatted with the owner. he mentioned that he'd seen me shoot this car in san pedro as well, and was interested in seeing any shots i had of the car. ya, he did want to see my better half's shots, but my better half hardly posts anymore, so told the guy he'd have better luck asking me.

so both the owner and his wife emailed me separately inquiring about it. he parks it in with the bridgetown club, but i'm not clear that he is part of the club.

found at least three shots of it. two of my favs were from pomona, several months apart. i did find the one shot from san pedro, but it's kinda weak, more from the front.

here's the other one from pomona.

fishin’

here's one from the summer, from the viejitos ela show, which i got way too busy to play with more shots. i'd spent the morning in chevy heaven in the back lot of the broiler. had gotten hot, so i was taking a break in the shade of the overhang.

the owner of this car pulled in with this fleetline on a trailer. too precious to drive, i guess, and i don't really blame him. well, he backed it down the ramp, and it just sat there for a bit. so, of course, i went over and had it all to myself. at least until someone told him to move it and the trailer out of the way. and people were mostly ignoring it for the time being.

pretty simple lines. just that fishin’ pole for decoration.

i'll take one, please.

niner fan

this impala was wonderful to look at, with it's high polish. spotted it driving through the lot and followed it over here by the grandstand. sun hadn't gotten up too high at that point, light was still golden.

of course, the owner was almost instantly pulling stuff from the trunk. i took a couple of shots of it before he got set up with whatever he was pulling out of the back. didn't like those shots, with the trunk up and his butt/back peeking through just a tad.

ended up stopping by again later. still intrigued by the shine of the hood, and took a few more in spite of the damn pop-up parked right up against the back. so i only have shots of the front and the side. none of the back end. oh well. at least the pop up is something other than blue.

black widow

i saw this car up on philadelphia, with it's club, lo nuestro, and thought i recognized it. went back behind it to check out the altar set up and found this:

i took a bunch of shots before the owner asked the usual questions. lots of details on this car. hard to decide where to look first.

i asked her if she had been at the chicano park show back in april. yep. that's where it was. i remembered exactly where it was parked—right here on the grass, in the middle of the park:

on another note...i had been on call to do some work today for the office. waited at home all day, until about four. decided it wasn't going to happen today, and decided i was going to drive out to covina to check out the real classics car show. i've had their card sitting on a shelf for several months now; one of many that have been handed to my better half to be passed on to me. supposedly their halloween show.

i got about half way there, when they sent me a message that the file was ready to work on, so i had to drive all the way back home to do ten minutes worth of work. then wait for the ok. so, by the time they approved it, i figured if i got back in the car and drove up there, i'd have about fifteen minutes before the sun went down. decided to wait until next month. they'll be having a food drive then...

thinking of going to the pomona swap meet tomorrow, before it gets too hot out. hoping the morning clouds that have been out for several days, are still around. they make the sky more interesting, and reflect so well on the polished cars.

and i also have a flyer for a groupe ela car show...maybe could swing by there on the way home...

along comes mary

so another photographer, who i think actually does work for a magazine, print or otherwise, had this guy move his car over here by the fountain. bunch of guys on the wall said so, and seemed to be in a particularly fine mood for this time of day. not sure if they'd been partaking of the red solo cups or just feeling giggly.

i don't ask people to move their cars; just shoot'em as i find them, hopefully without too many poles and wires in the background. hey, its a great composition, so i shot it too. all the while wondering how he got it wedged in here without bumping anything or the other cars that were parked in the spaces behind me. must have used the airbags to get it up and over the curbs.

and what's up with mary? she' tied up with wonder woman's lasso. nah, just a rosary, oddly draped on her. somebody must have low fived her too hard, since she's also missing a hand.

san bernardino shirt guy's truck

so my better half talked to the owner of this truck. well, i did ask about the shirt he was wearing, from a car show in san bernardino, if it was a good show, etc. he said it was a three-day event, and cars drove around the lake. so it may be worth checking out someday.

anyway, he asked my better half to take some pictures of his truck. closed the hood for him.

he usually mentions these requests to me, and i usually follow up and shoot a few as well, since i know how infrequently he posts his pictures anymore. he told the guy to give him a few days to several months when he handed him his card.

he does have cool cards—double thick, with pictures of cars on the back, his "now we dance like sprockets" portrait on the other side. if you've checked out his about me page, you'll know what i'm talking about. i like the feel of mine better, the paper is more silky. i digress...

anyway, thought i'd post one of the truck, so maybe he can see it. otherwise, he'll be waiting a while...
