i thought i broke my foot. been hurting for over a month, but for some reason really hurt this past weekend. kind of ruined plans of walking all over san francisco. my better half pretty much wouldn't let me hobble very far. we got down market, over to the ferry building, and to the bow and arrow thing. went to see that oz movie at the mall. but other than that, he pretty much kept me off my feet. imagine what you will.
anyway, i went to the doctor yesterday and had it x-rayed. got a call today, and was told, not broken, but perhaps an old injury had been aggravated. well. i don't remember hurting it before, so why is there a bone chip floating around, and one of the bones a bit out of place? so i'm supposed to soak my foot four times a day—won't my coworkers be so jealous that i'm soaking in it while i work. if only it was palmolive.
i guess i'll be taking it easy for a few weeks. i'm sure he won't let me go lifting my camera bag. and he'll be making me chug milk, so he won't have to do the i told you so about broken bones when i'm older.
anyone going to the show at chicano park? is it worth going? i've seen pics, so i would have to say yes. we're thinking of going next month. hope to see you there.

here's one of the other shots i took at the midnight oldies show that i stopped at briefly a couple of weeks ago. it's nice from the other angle/other side, but i really like the clouds, so get over it.
fire and smoke
just back from five days in 'frisco. must get some sleep, but i figured i'd post a picture while i downloaded the pictures i took while i was away. no car shows, so you'd probably have to check out my flickr site to see any of those.
here's a pair from the so cal tribe club. ya, i've posted them before, but i can if i want. hey ron and reine, always nice to see you guys and your cars.
rod riguez
let's hear it for the time change...pfft. i'm going to miss that extra hour of sleep.
busy week ahead, probably won't be posting until sunday, if i'm lucky. so i'll leave you with this guilded beast. a total look at me, look at me car, so i looked at it, looked at it.
i really just liked the pinstripe picture on the back, but am including the front and back views, for those who always ask. it was a really different take on a hot rod. the running boards probably aren't that useful.
the owner offered to let me shoot the inside, but nah, that's for someone else to have fun with. i'm busy judging the book by the cover.
quick stop
i've been working so many hours this past week, that i hadn't even been home until last night. stayed at my parent's house, which is closer to the office, but the mattresses there are so fred flintstone. and to top it off, i ran out of the spare clothes i keep in a closet, and almost had to wear my mom's clothes to work. not ready to give in to that yet, so ended up wearing pants i'd worn on tuesday and a clean shirt that happened to be there.
had to go in to the office today to meet some deadlines before i head to san fran for some business meetings later next week. i'd been told about this show off imperial and valley view, but it wasn't supposed to start until 10am. i headed out later to the office than i'd hoped, but earlier than start time for the show, hoping some cars would be there at least. mostly just stalling on going to work, i really didn't want to, but things have to get done. at least i didn't have to be there at any particular time.
there were a couple of clubs there, midnight oldies and the solitos. this one belongs to the solitos. you can see the guys' reflections on the side, as they had their tent right next to it. oh well.
but i had to shoot it from this angle...just look at the clouds. and hey, earlier equals no people walking into my shot. so yay.
hey to the guy who said he had gotten up before six in the morning to clean his car and put it back together. get some sleep.
so, i finished the things i needed to do at the office, and won't have to work tomorrow...any good shows going on ?
cornered
beauty, chevy is thy name.
the viejitos show was absolutely packed last sunday. second show of my day. this one had no wind, just sun, with an occasional breeze.
i walked past this one several times. group of dudes sittin' in front of it. hard to admire a car with a pod in front of it. i made the circuit of the parking lot three or four times, and finally, on the last pass, i went up and asked the guy if i could take a picture of his car.
why yes, and he, his friends, and the chairs moved away from it for a few shots. don't think i've had the nerve to ask people to move before, but i just couldn't walk past this one. why it was backed into the corner, i just don't know. just perfect.
at the helm
here's one of the tribe's cars. guy next to it said it was of helms bakery fame. i didn't grow up out here, so i had no clue what he was talking about, but my better half knew all about it. guess they used to drive these vans around and sell donuts out of the back. can only imagine they put a stop to that because of health codes.
wind in my hair, sun on my face...
i'm a bit behind on posting. several shows behind in sharing. plenty of cars for rainy days waiting in the wings.
funeral is over, family leaving town, so back to business as usual. and i have been so busy at work. so i'll post some cars from the last few shows i've been to belonging to people who talked to me, and even a few who'd admitted to knowing that i like the hood down, and could prove they'd been reading this drivel, by quoting some of my blather back to me.
here's the first from last week, when i hit three shows in one day. only took a couple of pictures at the show at original mikes in santa ana. it was so windy there, and palm fronds were falling arbitrarily. only a few cars i was interested in shooting there, but i do try to take at least one shot, when i take the time to drive out.
i've seen the owner of this chevy around fairly often, but this was the first time he'd stopped to ask about what i was doing. i liked the shadows playing over the shiny surface.
shadow firmly sewn to my shoes
so a little bit about my weekend, over the next couple of posts. i think i'll go backwards, since i took so many pictures at several shows.
this one is from sunday. i thought about it in the morning: i could have legitimately hit up five shows in one day easily, but decided to stay put in the morning; then off to two shows, and took a late lunch break at disneyland before cruising over to hooters, on my way home to do some laundry. so i only did three shows. good enough.
there was a ducks game sunday evening, so there were people collecting cash to park in the lot. but i was there for the car show, said so, and i guess i don't look like a hockey fan, so they let me through. i had been there the week before, and there were about a 100 cars up at the front, according to the promoter/dj guy. this time they'd been pushed to the back three rows.
i stayed about an hour, but there really only seemed to be about thirty cars, but i wasn't particularly counting, so what do i know?
i talked to several people, and saw some familiar faces. even a few of the latin gents, whom i'd seen earlier in the day at the viejitos show—which was absolutely packed and jammed with chevy goodness—but that's a story for another day.
the guy that owns this ford watched me shooting for a while, his and other cars, but finally came over to chat a bit. said he loved to see pictures of his car. so, here is my version of it for your consideration.
ya, that's me. peter pan's shadow didn't get away, but at least it's mostly out of the way.
