what's up?

loyalists

well, i made it to the majestics easter show over in lakewood. just didn't get moving early enough to justify paying to get in at pomona.

while i knew this show was going to pull in a lot of the low rider, newer cars i'm not that interested in, i also knew they would get some nice oldies in too. i did shoot a few of the more notable low riders, and maybe i'll post them sometime, just when i feel like something different. all i can say is they put a lot of money into those cars for the customized paint, hydraulics, chrome and engraving. and well damn. just damn.

i liked this one mostly because it parked screwy at an angle. i could get this view and a side view with no real problem. except for the club members on the other side hanging in the tent. they did finally move out of there by the time i took this shot; you can see them in the paint reflection standing behind me.

ran into a couple of people i see frequently at this show. that's always nice. luis said he was going to be at chicano park this saturday too...so that's one familar face i'll see there. wish my better half could go, but that probably isn't in the cards this time. so :(

still not loving this lens as much as the old one, and with chicano park coming up, i may just go around once with one lens then switch and go around again with the other, just to be sure i get something that makes me happy.

pendleton

ah, yes. the pendleton shirt. why the shirt? gotta be a status symbol. or stopping at the dry cleaners on the way home.

pretty car. still not sold on this lens i've been using.

thinking of two shows tomorrow: pomona and the majestics show in lakewood. feeling tired already. hope to get out to pomona early, before it gets too hot and sunny.

serape

where did the weekend go? so tired, gotta get to bed, so quick post tonight.

saw this chevy at the los boulevardos show.

it's nice. fairly typical; i have lots of shots of them. what caught my eye specifically was the plaque in the back window. there was a serape in the back that was reflecting onto it, and i just loved the colors.

stealthy

saw this pontiac out at the unidos show in walnut. can't remember seeing one before, so i had to take a few shots of it. i otherwise might have walked on by, since the back end was open, and you know how i am about hoods up; same for the trunk. or shoot real low and try to keep it out of the frame.

i think i like this one best, as there are no people in the shot and there are clouds in the sky.

the owner watched me for a little while then came over to ask if i sell pictures, answer is: sometimes. he's looking for something big, though he wasn't specific. 16x20? billboard? on metal? guess we'll see. he seemed sincerely interested, and had never even seen my work, so i hope he likes this one.

i liked the hood ornament: inspiration for, or inspired by the stealth bomber?

captain packard

last weekend, i also went to the azalea festival and car show in south gate.

i had stopped at another show the previous friday, and raynbow of the oc viejitos told me about it. so thanks, so much raynbow!

i hadn't been to this particular festival, but had been to the greenspan's show on the golf course last summer, so hoped it would be as good as that was, and i wasn't disappointed.

at least a couple hundred cars crammed onto the grassy knolls, so i got to shooting. (see what i did there...yes i did).

again, a perfect day, cool and overcast. i had a harder time getting out early like the day before. so tired...guess i'll get used to it.

ran into a couple of guys from the originals club right off the bat. armando has a very nice pontiac, and had bought some pictures from me last year. very nice guy. introduced me to his friend, and pointed out his friend's packard here. says he would be interested in getting a picture done too.

seemed specifically to be interested in a front view, and this was the one i liked best of the bunch. they also want it faded out on the edges, in a vignette kinda fashion, so i guess i'll do a little more work with it.

and i was so distracted by all the cars, i forgot to shoot new pictures of armando's car...oh well, next time, my friend.

----

aside from sometimes posting bigger size pictures this year, i've started to post some straight out of the camera shots over on flickr, of stuff i may never have time to get around to polishing up, but figure some people may be interested in seeing their car anyway, if they bothered to talk to me. so go check out my digital junkyard if you're curious. no, i'm not going to post everything, but enough so if i shot your car at a big show, it may be over there.

zlaket’s

stopped by the show in garden grove yesterday, on the way home from work. was better than sitting in friday traffic. haven't been there in many months, so it was nice to see that the street was pretty busy. i don't think there were too many empty spaces available when i left.

sadly, there weren't enough of the cars that i like or that used to show up there. i consoled myself with the few bel airs that were there. this was the first one i came across.

i set up and took a couple of angles of it, before the owner moseyed over. he asked if he could get a copy. told him i'd post it and handed him my card. want a print? go buy one here.

noticed the latin gents had shown up while heading out, but didn't take any pictures of their cars...to many people around them.

i intended to also stop at the show at the buena park elks' club before sunset, but was thwarted by construction lane closures before i could turn around and go a different way, so skipped it and went home.

------

my older bro is in town from the east coast, and today's his birthday <happy bday rob!>, and all of us sibs are actually going to be at my parents' all together. that's rare.

too bad my better half can't go...he's sure to miss some of the best stories my brothers tell from their daily life at work. interesting jobs, they come in contact with some unique samples of humankind—and it's not even walmart.

then to see my younger bro mimic people...he transforms into that person, so you can almost see them. it's just priceless. bubbles, the ginormous stripper from west virginia, is a fav. with her country twang demanding "i thank you need to buy me a drank," to the gyrations of gravity on her heavyset frame coming to a stop, he burns the image of her perfectly into your mind, though you've never even seen her.

anyway, got things to do this weekend. looks like i'm hitting up a couple of shows next weekend, so gotta take care of stuff now. and probably do a job for work on top of that. don't think i'll drive all the way down to the office, unless i really need to, though that's fun too...no one there except the cleaning crew, and i always suprise the shit out of one of the women, when she comes around the corner of my cubicle.

taking my sweet time

i've been very lazy this weekend. enjoyed the rain, recovered from the busy work week. come tomorrow, repeat the previous week. sometimes i wonder how many different ways you can be pulled without breaking. very draining, and finding it difficult to even want to turn on my computer in the evening.

shame too, because i do enjoy futzing with these cars.

i was up early today, and briefly considered going to pomona, but then it sprinkled a bit, and i decided not to. i suppose i should clean the cameras, as i switched the lens quite a few times last week, when i went to my son's alumni baseball game.

------

anyway, found this wonderful chevy at the viejitos show last october. i just love it. love the hood ornament too. and no one around; they must have been doing the raffle tickets at the time.

blue sky

got to get to bed. it's late. dead presidents day tomorrow. only know about one car show, and probably will skip it this year. gotta do the shopping, while my better half has to go to the office. so that sucks.

here's one of the few cars that were still at pomona when i was there in january. helps narrow down choices when there aren't so many cars, right? still have to think about how you want to shoot them. the sky was cloudy, so i took lots of shots from down low.
