what's up?

...on my shoulder

1956 chevy truck

quick post. long day for a holiday. drove to pasadena, drove to norco, drove back home. traffic sucked, but not as much as it will tomorrow.

was awfully clear and sunny, considering that its supposed to rain tomorrow. not hauling my cameras with me, assuming that will be the case by the time i get off work.

yes, i did drive out to east jesus nowhere today. took a number of pictures. but just couldn't decide which to post, so i'll throw up this truck from yesterday at hooters.

i had wanted to catch the sunset, but upon arriving there, realized the show is mostly hidden behind a tall office building. there were bits of sun on the edges, like this piece here. but i was done with the show before the sun went completely down, and i got too cold from the wind and not wearing a jacket.

aside from the sun and the sunburst, i liked the color, and mostly that the hood was closed. thanks for that, as always.

winter

work in progress

winter is a time of desolation and cold. a time of sleep and anticipation. less sunlight.

pfft. it was in the 80s yesterday. tomorrow maybe 65°, followed by rain tuesday and wednesday. california is just a confusing place. seasons are all screwy here. but i don't think i could ever go back east to live anymore, though it might be fun for one year.

but then, i wouldn't have so many choices of car shows to visit anywhere else either. i would truly have to hoard up cars for the winter if i lived anywhere else.

well, i'm no squirrel, though i may be nuts, and i already have so many cars to choose from in my digital garage, i sometimes wonder why i keep looking for more.

i saw this one pulling in last weekend in lakewood as i was packing up to leave. the primer covered ghost. i hadn't gotten a shot of it then. i figure that many of the cars i see at the smaller shows i frequent, eventually will be back. or i will find it at another show. or i will be haunted by them, as i drive down city streets, and often see stuff driving the other way. here it is a week later, at the hooters show in anaheim. glad to have given this show another try. there were plenty of cars to look at, a plethora if you'd prefer.

i imagine in the spring and summer, this location is a bitch to get to and/or park at, being in the backyard of anaheim stadium and down the street from the pond/honda center.

not sure if it is any one particular model of car, or chopped up pieces of things. i kinda think its something of a '48 chevy or so. i guess i could have asked the owner, who was hovering around nearby (not literally, or he would be the ghost). he never said a word, and eventually went somewhere else. this was my favorite of the shots i took. no people walking through, no posts sticking out randomly. the bare, stripped down trees, behind the bare, stripped down car. makes me look forward to the spring, and seeing this car again, as they continue to work it up, to a spring of its own. i suspect it may take a bit longer than it will for the trees.

drive

1948 chevy fleetmaster

i have monday off from work. only know of one show, out in norco. i went to one there last year. lots of cars. worth the trip, but also very hot. used to have a reason to drive that far out of my way, but not really now. so i'm thinking about it, but haven't decided for sure if i really want to drive out to east jesus nowhere yet.

i should just hit up a couple of shows tomorrow and fill up my memory card with enough to keep me happy for a while. still a couple of weeks for my favorite monthly shows, so i'm just idling through older pictures in my collection.

i think this is one of the latin gents cars, out at ruby's last summer. they don't usually make it this far north for a smaller show, but i think there were a couple of them out that night.

dream time

1960 chevy impala

three day weekend ahead. a baseball game. taxes. car shows. long week at work, another one coming, gotta get some rest.

my better half has already gone to bed, so i guess i should go join him.

i like impalas. the back end on this year is beginning to lose the wonderful curves of a '59, but not completely. and the tail lights are still cool. can't really read which club this one belongs to, with the plaque up in front of the blinds. oh well.

truck me

1956 chevy truck

i've got more work than time at the office. i am becoming one with my chair, and my legs are feeling it. and my phone is screwy and its pissing me off. i think, at least, that is mostly fixed, except for all my phone numbers. here nor there.

i gotta get some sleep. maybe bounce on a trampoline first, get the circulation going.

saw this one the other day in lakewood. at least the trucks mostly kept the hoods down. especially this one, with it's ghost flames.

lightly toasted

chevy biscayne

was this one even part of the hillco super cruise? down in the center of the buildings, i suppose its possible it is just a work in progress, or just belongs to some employee that got stuck working super bowl sunday.

wonder how long it takes to rust up a perfectly good car like this, or why you'd let it.

watching american horror story episodes while working on my pictures. guess its almost as weird.

dukeys

dukes chevys

i spent the day in riverside. sitting outside in the cold and the clouds. at least it didn't rain.

then tried to go to a car show, but it wasn't where it said it was supposed to be. that's fine, there are a couple tomorrow i can choose from, if i'm still in the mood or have time after the other things i need to do.

then it was too late to go to costco for my better half to get some computer thing, same with frys.

this is another from the super show on super bowl sunday. yummy chevys, all in a row.

since i didn't stay very long, at the show, i don't really have much to say. i could mention the creepy asian shopkeeper across the street, that i was sure was going to have my car towed for parking in front of his store, just for chuckles. no sign on the place, so what the hell does he sell and how does he stay in business? no, the car was thankfully there when i went back, and i was saved from melting in the sun by the blessed air conditioning system therein. and the shopkeeper was, thankfully, gone.

such a nice car

chevy

quick post because i went to the broiler tonight and stayed longer than i intended, though i wished i could have stayed later...there were lots of cars showing up. i still have stuff to do before bed.

spent a lot of time up at the front of the lot. several cars caught my eye. noticed this one pull in and drive directly out to the back of the lot. thought that was a shame, but figured there just weren't any spots open at the time to park closer.

so when i was mostly done, i wandered to the back to see if they were still there. yep. they've turned the back lot lights on again, and it was parked like this under one of them. a guy was there with his two kids, so i went over to them. the teenage girl was shooting pictures of the car, and i was waiting for her to finish so i could slip in and get some shots.

turns out its the guy's car, and his daughter was trying to shoot it for a school assignment. only thing was, i think they said it kept coming out wrong. blurry or too dark. she had the settings wrong. and was standing way too far back for the little flash to really illuminate anything—almost like people using their flash at a baseball stadium—pretty useless.

i managed to grab this one view of the car while she was trying to figure out her camera. she/they were kind enough to wait while the long exposures were cranking through.

they were still there when i left. hope she got something to satisfy the teacher anyway.

been busy

1953 chevy bel air

finally got a couple of hard drives and spent the weekend backing up stuff, getting ready to make room on my hard drive. plus it rained, so i skipped a couple of shows, assuming no one would go.

so, i'm still finishing up some back ups, but if its not raining tomorrow, i intend to check out a new show in el toro. i'm not quite sure why its starting, since there's still the one at fuddruckers at the same time. i've been away from it for a while, so maybe there's some drama going on with the organizers or the restaurant. maybe they intend to move it all over to the new one. i don't' know, but i'll check it out.

meanwhile, my better half's van has been having engine and/or electrical issues, and i have to drive him over to pick it up again in few minutes, so here's a quick post. it's a viejitos car. it's red. red's a bitch.
