what's up?

rainy day

still sifting through older pictures. can't decide what to post. got it narrowed down to four cars. starting with this one. thought this looked pretty cool. early morning, whittier carshow last august. line up for the show. captive audience situation. just wandered down the line, picking and choosing as i went. not any real remarkable stories to talk about. just the pretty picture to tell the story.

------

morning started with ambitious plans to go to the oc swapmeet, then a few car shows, all before the rain started.

we got as far as garden grove, had breakfast at a gonzalez market. it started to sprinkle while we sat in the car snarfing carnitas. figuring it would continue, we went back inside and bought more carnitas and ribs and headed home. swung out past where the viejitos monthly show should have been, last i heard. i guess it probably was too early, and also because of the sprinkles, nothing was going on. maybe it's moved on to somewhere else; it's been several months since i've seen any of them.

anyway, i decided i would just log on to the work computer from home, and try to get some of that done before the week catches fire there. it popped up like usual, but when i went to open a file, the server had nothing on it, and the other servers had red Xs. logged off and tried booting my other computer at work, but that showed the same thing. so they're doing something with servers at work, so i'm kinda screwed tomorrow.

i hope they're just shuffling data to some other location, or i'm not going to be able to work from home next friday, as planned. blah di dah.

sleepless in whittier

it's almost eleven. i slept in late this morning, and now i can't sleep. i suppose i'll go stare at the ceiling. my better half went to bed a couple of hours ago.

i'm trying to do some backups on my drives. problem is, i have a bunch of external drives, some of them older than others, some with this year and last year, some older. apparently, some aren't as current as others. so, i'm finding pictures i know i've posted, still marked as stuff to do. so i've screwed up somewhere on the backups.

i don't think i've put this one out there. from a couple of years ago, at the dia de los muertos show. pretty nice car.

i think maybe i'm trying to decide if the lens i used to use shoots better, sharper pictures than the new one i've been shooting for the last six months. i think i'm leaning more toward the older one, even if the new one is supposed to be the better one.

then versus the old camera body and the one i use now. exif data says i shot this one with the newer camera body, older lens. what do you think?

rambling now.

car shows in whittier make me happy to live here in whittier most of the time, don't have to worry about parking and can sleep just a bit later and still beat the sun.

that, and my better half. well, mostly him.

gloomy

looks like it may actually rain, probably within a couple of hours. perfect weather for hiding under the covers.

i need some fresh pictures. whittier community church show next weekend. haven't been out much lately, and feeling rusty. and tired. been working too much. same old same old. maybe i'll drive out to downey on wednesday and see what's what at the broiler.

found this picture from a few years ago. pt cruiser, i think. they mostly suck. but i like the bullet lights they stuck on this one. otherwise, they can take the bullet hole stickers and tommy gun, etc. and suck it. that's just stupid.

some thing

found this thing parked between two semi-trucks. just random. so i randomly shot a picture of it. no hood ornament, so otherwise, i don't know why i did.

i do like the sunrise light.

------

just back from a weekend in san diego. probably will be down there a few more times this year.

sunday morning, we hopped the little red train down to barrio logan to get some breakfast at the market. was fun watching my better half ordering from the lady at the register, who didn't seem to speak english.

his mom was born in and grew up in new mexico, of mexican parents, but refused to teach his sister and him to speak spanish—figured they were in america, they should speak english. still, he knew enough words to get the order right. i took years of spanish in school, was married to a mexican, and still can't speak it at all, so good for him.

after we ate, we walked around chicano park a bit. never went there when it hasn't been full of cars. mostly empty, with some sketchy people hanging around the edges and under the overpass. they must move them out of there at car show time.

divining rod

i wandered through all the parking lots at the majestics new years' show, and back. new stuff arrived and i'd go back and try to find it. some cars had too many people around them on the first pass, but i got them on the next one.

that seems to be the only way to deal with a bigger show. pretty much why i just don't go to the really major shows people tell me about...just too many people...unless i can be there at the same time cars are rolling in.

this one i probably would have passed by, but there was no one in the way, and the paint on it was pretty well done. but looking at it now, i can't decide if it was the lens, or if that big phallic thing on the trunk was not quite centered. sort of the angle of the dangle...between two girls...boys and their fantasies. lol. at least it's up.

i would just be pissed, or would it be obsessivly crazed, to drop a crap ton of cash on a custom paint job and find it just a tad off.

-----

been working too much, or should i say, i have too much work. wishing they'd hire another person. trying out a contractor on a couple of simple jobs, but they're located in northern ca, so can't really get a feel for them, and i haven't seen their portfolio. should be interesting.

still, i have another couple of intense weeks coming up at work, so probably will be too fried to post much again. happy to have realized a bit late that it was a holiday weekend, but that just means i gotta work even faster to meet the deadlines. ugh.

fifty

ok, mustangs really aren't my thing. probably because my sister had a boyfriend with one back in the day. and i didn't like him much, but what does a kid know?

i usually don't give them much more than a glance at shows, this one included.

i had walked past these and was happily shooting some old pos truck, covered with rust, when some guy walked up and asked if i had shot his car yet. i asked which one, and he pointed over at the 'stang, or should i say 'stangs. both of these are his.

told him i hadn't shot them, probably wouldn't because they just aren't my thing, aren't old enough.

he argued that i probably had seen this, and probably wouldn't very often. his point was that there is a fifty year difference between these two models, and they are both his. the story was that he'd bought the '65 when he got married in '65, and had bought this stinking new mustang this year for their golden anniversary.

it is a big, beefy model. i'm sure it purrs when he drives it. i had a rental mustang a couple of years ago, and i couldn't stand it, but maybe this is a little better.

so i took a few shots. not bothering to post the new model by itself, cuz, you can just go see one of those at any ford dealer today.

happy anniversary, btw. i forgot to tell the guy.

vibrant

this is from last week's show in norco. almost as soon as i walked into the show area of the lot, i heard, "kathy!" for all i know, they're calling to someone else, cuz they usually are, but not this time.

it was an old acquaintance, my buddy, gary. hadn't seen him at a show for a couple of years. and you know with old guys...you start to wonder...

last time i saw him, was at the riverside show-n-go. he'd had his chevy there the first night, but not the next day. his friends told me his starter had stopped. on the car, that is.

and then i didn't see the car or him there last year. really at any show in riverside last year.

but here he was in norco. with a new car. no wonder.

said he still has the chevy, but now has to decide which one to take out.

so of course, i had to take a picture of his new baby. so hey, gary. what's with the bright, bright colors on your cars?

and what the h...this is like my third or fouth post in a row with a turquisey color vehicle.

pomp and circumstance

we went out to hillco's annual super cruise yesterday. good way to ignore the stupid bowl. and my deadlines.

got there early, shot a lot of cars before it got too crowded, left before noon. made someone happy with my parking space.

i think i made a full circuit at least three times. cars kept moving, more kept driving in.

saw this guy with a pompador at least eight inches or more high. happened to have my macro out and got this shot after he'd already passed by. i get it, and it was impressive, but do i really need to reiterate my thoughts correlating size and compensation? no.

found this chevy in between the buildings. love the backdrop of the building exterior and brickwork. happy that no one walked through the shot.

actually, people were being polite, and either going around or waiting for me to finish whatever i was doing. nice.

it was a good day.
