what's up?

drive

1948 chevy fleetmaster

i have monday off from work. only know of one show, out in norco. i went to one there last year. lots of cars. worth the trip, but also very hot. used to have a reason to drive that far out of my way, but not really now. so i'm thinking about it, but haven't decided for sure if i really want to drive out to east jesus nowhere yet.

i should just hit up a couple of shows tomorrow and fill up my memory card with enough to keep me happy for a while. still a couple of weeks for my favorite monthly shows, so i'm just idling through older pictures in my collection.

i think this is one of the latin gents cars, out at ruby's last summer. they don't usually make it this far north for a smaller show, but i think there were a couple of them out that night.

dream time

1960 chevy impala

three day weekend ahead. a baseball game. taxes. car shows. long week at work, another one coming, gotta get some rest.

my better half has already gone to bed, so i guess i should go join him.

i like impalas. the back end on this year is beginning to lose the wonderful curves of a '59, but not completely. and the tail lights are still cool. can't really read which club this one belongs to, with the plaque up in front of the blinds. oh well.

truck me

1956 chevy truck

i've got more work than time at the office. i am becoming one with my chair, and my legs are feeling it. and my phone is screwy and its pissing me off. i think, at least, that is mostly fixed, except for all my phone numbers. here nor there.

i gotta get some sleep. maybe bounce on a trampoline first, get the circulation going.

saw this one the other day in lakewood. at least the trucks mostly kept the hoods down. especially this one, with it's ghost flames.

lightly toasted

chevy biscayne

was this one even part of the hillco super cruise? down in the center of the buildings, i suppose its possible it is just a work in progress, or just belongs to some employee that got stuck working super bowl sunday.

wonder how long it takes to rust up a perfectly good car like this, or why you'd let it.

watching american horror story episodes while working on my pictures. guess its almost as weird.

ford play

if only more of you would just ignore the clouds in the sky. it wasn't going to rain today. driving west on the 605, it got less cloudy, and more beams of sun peaked in and out through them. come on, the overcast sky makes for better pictures.

out at the fuddruckers in lakewood, i can never guess how many cars will show up. there were only about a dozen here for the show today. ran into angel, who said it was too cold. i think it was the clouds. he said there'd been way more cars just a couple weeks earlier.

i figured i'd shoot at least a few shots of the few cars that didn't have the hoods up and/or owners standing in front or in the shot. mostly trucks.

actually, i shot this one down low, not only to snag the clouds, but because there was three or four dudes on the other side of it talking dude talk. that's ok. i like this angle better anyway.

put my gear in the trunk, as another primer covered ghost pulled in and parked and dropped down. was tempted to get it all out again and shoot it. but no, i needed to eat a very late lunch. real bangin' headache today. mostly gone now.

thought about driving to another show in anaheim, but heading back east on the freeway, the clouds really were darker and more threatening to rain, so i just went home and did a few of the things i keep saying i gotta do. my better half said it was sprinkling over at the frys off the 60.

dukeys

dukes chevys

i spent the day in riverside. sitting outside in the cold and the clouds. at least it didn't rain.

then tried to go to a car show, but it wasn't where it said it was supposed to be. that's fine, there are a couple tomorrow i can choose from, if i'm still in the mood or have time after the other things i need to do.

then it was too late to go to costco for my better half to get some computer thing, same with frys.

this is another from the super show on super bowl sunday. yummy chevys, all in a row.

since i didn't stay very long, at the show, i don't really have much to say. i could mention the creepy asian shopkeeper across the street, that i was sure was going to have my car towed for parking in front of his store, just for chuckles. no sign on the place, so what the hell does he sell and how does he stay in business? no, the car was thankfully there when i went back, and i was saved from melting in the sun by the blessed air conditioning system therein. and the shopkeeper was, thankfully, gone.

feeling super

1957 buick super

i'd hoped for a more interesting sunset when i stopped at the elks' lodge last week. had also hoped for more cars like the previous time. lot was only half full by the time i got there, even with friday traffic, so i didn't stay very long. of course, about the time i was done and heading to my car, the viejitos began to arrive. that's ok, i'd shot the couple that drove in here previously, and didn't feel like walking back to shoot them this night.

as usual, a lot of cars had their hoods up, so natural selection was already thinning the herd for me...

thought this buick was kinda nice, with its xmas color paint scheme. really good condition too. big chrome bumpers do tend to catch my reflection, which isn't my favorite part of shooting cars, but i hope my pictures reflect well on me...

mirror finish

1937 dodge sedan

i went to a few shows on super bowl sunday. found this at super cruise x in garden grove. first i'd heard of it, but was told by two different people that they've done it for ten years now, every super bowl sunday.

almost didn't go, thinking not much would be there, but the guy that gave me a flyer earlier in the week claimed there would be several hundred cars there. and i suppose there was. i got there a couple of hours into it, and stayed less than an hour. only because it was hot and there wasn't a lot of shade on the asphalt were one would want to take pictures from.

this one is a dukes car, parked in front of a business flying a dukes banner, flanked by dukes cars. they're all perfection in their own way. took a couple of shots down low and one at normal level. i like the normal one, but it shows too much of the surrounding industrial buildings and people and cars and other distractions, and this lower one shows off the hood ornament so nicely, and the sheer mirror perfection of the door just makes me happy. ended up flipping a coin to which to post, so here you go.

flying fish

mercury woodie

stopped at fuddruckers the other day. mostly too late to catch the sunset, which wasn't all that special anyway. not like the one a couple of nights ago. why is it when there's some awesome sunset to be seen from the front door here, there isn't a car show to be had? saturday, there was a sunset so deep purple to deep red, melted crayons couldn't have matched it in a million years.

finding fewer cars at this show that i want/need to shoot a picture of. been an overall different vibe there, though the dj/host does like to mention other upcoming shows to me.

only took this shot because i liked the fish hood ornament. that decal on the side panel kinda ruins it for me otherwise.
