what's up?

ford flamer

1949 ford

check out the flame job on this puppy. owner corrected me: 1950 businessman's coupe [thanks!] i think its a 1949 ford custom...i hate when all the identity stuff is removed and have to guess at what a car used to be. not that i know car models anyway, but i like to have some way of tagging my pictures. this was at the main street show in garden grove this past friday evening. not as many cars as there was when i visited in march. i suspect i didn't stay late enough, though i was there for 2 hours, shooting and waiting to see what other surprises would drive up.

not too many people on the side lots, nor even that many on the main street to get in the pictures. i think they were still hanging out in the restaurants or quenching their thirst while i was there. more room for me to get the shots i wanted, so much the better. i figure the more pictures i take, the better they will get. oh and you should see some of the prints i have of these cars. i just got a batch of 8x10s printed on a metallic finish paper...wow! ask to see them if you catch me at a show.

shaggin wagon

why do i always find wonderful cars parked out in the back lot here? are they waiting their turn for a prime spot? are they just people that are going to eat at bob's and just happen to drive bitchin' cars? some of these shows are so forest gump – never know whatcha gonna get.

this one, fortunately for me, had plenty of space to get a good shot and show its flames well. not sure what year this is (anyone know?), since obviously the owner was not around, and there was no specialized mark on the plates or anything. i stayed fairly late that night, and never saw this one move up to the main show. just wish they'd turn on the lights back there when the sun goes down. don't exactly want to be alone in the dark with my gear, so i'm sure there are many that i will never get to add to my collection.

on another note, what's up with the cruise night at angelo's in anaheim? i drove out there tonight after working late, about 6:30, and there's just two guys standing in front of wannabe low riders, the kind with the little wheels, but not much to look at. or the cars either. nothing on the flyer that says its only once a month or anything. at least it wasn't too far out of my way.

tired now, off to bedski.

tommy's boy

1934 packard eight

one of the few oldies at the aliso viejo cruisin' at the cup last weekend. this 1934 packard eight was in fairly excellent condition. the owner (hey thomas!) said he'd bought back in the sixties, if i remember correctly. i guess i should write down the tidbits of history that owners share with me, not just the make and model. they are just like members of a family when they've been together that long.

let me know if you wanna buy a print.

got a woody

1937 ford woody

this one courtesy of the garden grove main street show back in march. i really liked this show, as i mentioned before. so many cars, not enough light. i haven't had time to go back yet. friday nights are always so busy for me...juggling priorities.

a lot of the cars were parked close together, making them more difficult to get a clean shot. this woody kinda had made it's own space on the sidewalk, near the entrance to another parking area. i had to patiently wait for people to move out of the way, since it was a high traffic crossing. could barely get my tripod set up without worrying about people tripping, so i had to do this quickly. wish i could have gotten a little more to the right to show more of the siding. oh well.

well, i'm going to be very busy at work this week, probably working some overtime. probably a lot of overtime in the coming couple of months. will make it difficult to work on my cars here and/or attend shows. that sucks. especially when it's supposed to rain this week — time not at shows meant time to work on my pictures.

this one's for you

37 plymouth 4 door

well, i checked out the show at hooter's, el toro today. maybe i didn't stay late enough, but there didn't really seem to be that many cars. small collection of pt cruisers all spiffed up, which really isn't my bag, but there were enough of the classics to satisfy.

i recognized quite a few cars from other shows—even one from downey. actually glad to see them at different times of the day—different light, different look for the same car.

i recognized the color and the grill of this plymouth as soon as i got there, from one of the fuddrucker's shows i've been to before, being such an unusual shade of red raspberry purple. i happened to have a little close up picture of his grill with me, and handed it to the owner, who happened to be nearby. he seemed very appreciative, and even said he'd been checking out my website, though i've never talked to him before. word must be getting around, i guess. glad its a good word.

galaxie 500

1964 ford galaxie 500

this ‘64 ford galaxie 500 was from the first night i visited the downey bob's big boy broiler show in march. it's owned by a very nice couple, who chatted with me for a few minutes. i talked to the wife, who was saving the parking space, while her husband fetched the car from the back lot. mentioned that i'd eventually post it on my flickr site.

saw them the other day, parked in about the same spot. i know they've been patiently waiting to see their car here. so i figured i should go see what it looked like. turned out all right. even got the burger boy sign in there. hope you two like it :)

my older brother had a ‘66 galaxie 500 when he was in high school. fixed it up nice. can't remember whether he sold it or my sister crashed it. i'll have to ask.

white dream

i took this shot at the ruby's whittier car show last september. i think it really was because of this one that the photo bug bit me again. thinking about this show again, since they will be starting the season in a week or two. i will have to go back and find this car again. give the owner a shout out and a thank you. :)

i remember it was very warm that night and i wasn't feeling very well. getting ready to pack it up and found an out-of-the-way curb to sit on (must be a habit) and saw this. clouds moving in, sunset, fins (my fav) – and then after processing the shot, wow. it was also probably the second image i'd learned to process this way, and even though this one seems a bit rough now, and i think my images are improving, this one remains a fav (though all of them are favs, or i wouldn't bother posting them, now would i?)

1948 chrysler

downey. i'd never seen one of these before. my eye always looks for the emblems, hood ornaments, any other details that identify cars. i usually carry another camera with a macro lens for getting these things up close. [ http://www.flickr.com/photos/15185521@N02/4513722680/ ]. i think next time i see this one, i'll take it from a bit higher up to get more of the curve of the hood, and especially if its not next to a van - ruins the picture.
