where's wall-e?

found this old chevy rat rod at fuddrucker's a couple of weeks ago. it's kind of beat to hell and back, but it was just more interesting that way. wonder if they're stopping here, or if they will continue fixing it up.

love the hood ornament (see a close up here). i like the added old coin inserted on the radiator emblem, i've seen that more than once. even better, the big engine sticking up reminds me of the little robot from wall-e, but on steriods.

on a more humorous note: soon after this shot, i packed up my gear, threw it the trunk, with plans to stop somewhere for dinner. but, as i was sliding into my seat, my back pocket caught on something, and then the entire left side of my pants got a big vertical rip in the backside, from the waistline to the top of the back thigh. i'm talking full cheekage hanging out. oh shit. there go any plans for dinner. i wear long shirts, but it would have been no help that time.

very fortunately, i have a detached garage i could drive in to at home, shut the door, change back into the pants i had worn to work, and then go back out. tried to pick up my dry cleaning, but they locked the door as i circled the lot looking for parking. guess it just wasn't my evening to be out.

master deluxe indeed

yet another 1938 chevy from the downey broiler. something about this body type i really like. the big, full fenders and grill, and my fav, a hood ornament, i just gotta take a picture or two or three...

the couple that owned this one and a similar one (this one, i think (correct me if i'm wrong): /whats-up/2010/5/14/pontiac-attack.html), knew i'd taken shots of their cars, and after having seen an 8x10 print of another car, were totally all about buying one of each of their cars. when i get a reaction like that to my work, i know that i'm doing something right.

we'll see. a lot of people say that they want a print, but then don't follow through. i suppose they're happy with the wallpaper they copy from here and that's fine. but nothing will beat the full resolution print without my name plastered on it, and if i don't get an email about it or run into them again, i probably won't order it, unless i wouldn't mind having one myself anyway. if i happen to have a print of your car in my book, you're welcome to buy it from me—i can always order another. :)

coffee time

ok, so now that our tired, burned out router has been replaced, i can post again! yay! busy weekend.

here's one i was trying to post the other day. i think its a 1963 impala. i seem to like these cars from the back end more than the front. maybe they're just more distinctive from this point of view. this model wasn't rockin' the over the top fins of earlier models, but i don't think i had seen this year in my collection yet. owners were nice enough to wait for me to finish before they left. thanks, you guys!

orange sherbet

another from pal joey's dream car revue. this was the last shot of the day, while they were doing the awards and raffle.

happily, the owner finally closed the hood and i got the shot i wanted. the colors were so creamy and juicy, i had a craving for orange sherbet after this. i don't think it won anything though.

it bugs me

sometimes i find some really nice cars parked in bad places. at least for a picture. this old chevy truck was parked, understandably, in the shade on a hot day. by a transformer. and the trash bin hideout thingy. this was the better side. the other shot had too many people in it, and bags of trash on the ground behind it. shame really because i like the giant grills on these trucks. maybe another time, i'll find a better angle.

badass

ok, this nomad was freakin' pristine. even better that i made the owner nervous—though i was several feet from his car, he was afraid of my gear touching his baby. as if i want to bump any car—guess who'd get to pay for any damage? errr. well, there was a power cord running behind his car, but i stayed off of it. almost didn't want to bother taking a picture of it after that.

strange how he worried about me scratching his baby, when i later saw his toddler kid crawling around inside and beside it. doesn't he know that children are more hazardous to a vehicle than little old me and my tripod? i speak from experience...whatever.

it's full of stars...

this 1940 chevy was at the downey big boy's broiler last week. apart from it just being a cool old car, i think it caught my eye because the glitter paint on the fenders really started to shine with the sun beginning to go down. had some nice pinstriping detail too. even with these updates, the basic classic lines of the car still are perfectly preserved.

1941 was a good year.

well, it's getting late, but i just had to finish this one. garden grove main street again. this one was so clean, the light just bounced off the chrome. it just begged to photographed, so i did.

shaggin wagon

why do i always find wonderful cars parked out in the back lot here? are they waiting their turn for a prime spot? are they just people that are going to eat at bob's and just happen to drive bitchin' cars? some of these shows are so forest gump – never know whatcha gonna get.

this one, fortunately for me, had plenty of space to get a good shot and show its flames well. not sure what year this is (anyone know?), since obviously the owner was not around, and there was no specialized mark on the plates or anything. i stayed fairly late that night, and never saw this one move up to the main show. just wish they'd turn on the lights back there when the sun goes down. don't exactly want to be alone in the dark with my gear, so i'm sure there are many that i will never get to add to my collection.

on another note, what's up with the cruise night at angelo's in anaheim? i drove out there tonight after working late, about 6:30, and there's just two guys standing in front of wannabe low riders, the kind with the little wheels, but not much to look at. or the cars either. nothing on the flyer that says its only once a month or anything. at least it wasn't too far out of my way.

white dream

i took this shot at the ruby's whittier car show last september. i think it really was because of this one that the photo bug bit me again. thinking about this show again, since they will be starting the season in a week or two. i will have to go back and find this car again. give the owner a shout out and a thank you. :)

i remember it was very warm that night and i wasn't feeling very well. getting ready to pack it up and found an out-of-the-way curb to sit on (must be a habit) and saw this. clouds moving in, sunset, fins (my fav) – and then after processing the shot, wow. it was also probably the second image i'd learned to process this way, and even though this one seems a bit rough now, and i think my images are improving, this one remains a fav (though all of them are favs, or i wouldn't bother posting them, now would i?)
