what's up?

i coulda had a v8

34 ford

just got home from the x games. saw the guy get smashed by his motorcycle. looked real bad, but they say he'll be ok.

quick post then off to bedski.

this 1934 ford was at the show off alondra and the 605. nice old car. looks a little odd straight on, so i've cropped it here. i left the ghosts in the background...maybe they came with the car?

back that ass up

1964 cadillac

so i felt like crap today. went to work anyway. tons of work to do, as always. nice place to be, always busy. but at the end of the day, after driving for an hour, just didn't feel like going to a show.

so when i'm in that mood, what better to do than pick a nice car to work on and get focused. zoning out, or should i say zoning in?

this 1964 cadillac coupe deluxe was at original mikes on a very hot day at the end of may. this was a very long car, and i wished the owner hadn't backed it into the corner like this, but the front end was interesting too.

i sometimes wonder if i should 'fix' the blemishes on cars, like the chips in the paint—perfectly capable of doing so—but then that would take a little of it's personality away. at this size, you mostly don't notice them anyway, but i can see them quite well at full size, and on this one, i can spot them on screen too. can you?

so i didn't stay very long, as it was so hot out, felt like i was wearing a couple of sponges on my chest. at least the fire boys were just across the street, and at the show, should i or anyone have passed out from heat exhaustion.

mine's bigger

1934 ford hot rod

there's just gotta be something about a guy with a big engine. don't think i've ever seen one so errr...tall. i can't believe he drove this to the show...how could he see where he's turning? kinda freudian. probably plays guitar too. i joke when i say that black drive belt is for the squirrel to run on, but that's the way my mind wanders, probably needs at least two of 'em. anyway, i ramble...

i had a busy weekend; one day in riverside, next day in ventura. found this 1934 ford hot rod thing at the corona elks lodge annual show (i can't recall the exact name). not overly huge, but one of the 'elks' did stop by to tell me that their first show only had about 8 cars. this one had filled their lot...about 20–30 maybe, i didn't really count. had never been there before. i'm not sure what people thought of me, no one really bothered to ask. not even the usual question: you with a magazine? that's fine, i get more pictures in a shorter time that way, and that's better on a hot day, like this one.

they had an interesting barbeque made out of or made to look like the front end of a 56/57 chevy. i didn't partake, as i'd already eaten. only stayed for about fifteen minutes, then a short stop in whittier.

and i've just realized that i've now posted over 100 cars here. yippee.

and it was all yellow

hot rod chevy

i finally took the time to drive out and shoot at the show in cypress. i've heard that there are sometimes up to 60 to 80 cars here. i guess maybe if you stay from beginning to end, there might be, but i didn't stay too late. there were more cars driving up as i packed it up. always makes me want to unpack and go get them too. but then i'd never get home, now would i?

ran into several people that i've seen at various shows. never know who will show up and where. constantly surprised to see cars that i haven't seen in months, and here they are again. forest gump shows...never know what you're gonna get.

anyway, i hadn't seen this one before and it was so conveniently located on the end of the row by itself, i had to take a picture of it. owner was nearby, and seems interested in buying a print, so here it is...what do you think?

big engine. looks like giant binoculars into the soul of the car, should you choose to take a peek...

baby you're much too fast

1972 corvette

so yay for me, a corvette with it's hood down! so wanted one of these puppies when i was a kid, but didn't everyone?

i like it next to that big ass buick, the corvette's sensuous lines contrasting the heft of the other car. and it's like they called each other before the prom and got all coordinated for the picture.

sunny side up

bel air

this chevy bel air was the color of a vivid yellow egg yolk. one with flames. down the sides. guess that would make it a fast breakfast to go.

the flames were just a bit darker than the body paint, so they might be difficult to see here, but they were cool. love the torpedo bumpers on these; look like they could do some damage if you're unlucky enough to tangle with them.

parked half in / half out of the sun / shade, i just hope for the best. deal with what it is, and take a lot of pictures...maybe one will turn out o.k., like this one.

hello, mr. ranger, sir!

1958 edsel ranger

there is promise in this '58 edsel. if you can overlook its crusty exterior. all the necessary stuff is there, just a little more "broken in" than most of the cars at the shows.

and sitting next to a fully restored edsel, of which you only see a peek of the tail on the left, probably made it seem a little dull. actually, i didn't even bother taking a picture of the shiny one (i think i already shot it previously anyway).

the owners of the edsels were both sitting behind the cars. the ranger's young daughter was bouncing around inside the car, but from this point of view she can't be seen.

blue mambo

1949 ford shoebox

this shoebox was at a show at lakewood and woodruff. was a real eye catcher, and the owner knew it.

really interesting flame paint job over what seems to be brushed metal, and the pinstriping was pretty cool. check out the back here. not the best shot, but you can make out the girl, i think.

i wasn't too happy with my shots, and i haven't seen it again anywhere else. here's to hoping.

looka dat cadillac

cadillac

did your mother ever tell you, "never look at the sun?" ya, well i've heard that before, but here i am pointing the camera at it, to see what it would do.

this incredible 1960/61 cadillac was parked sideways out by itself in the corner of the ruby's show in whittier last week. i took a few shots, but i don't know if i like the others so much. the way it was parked and the angle of the sun behind me threw a long long shadow...if i got too close to the car, it was on the car, too far back, just kinda want to <yawn>. i can get rid of the shadow, but i dunno. i'll think about working on it another time.

my husband shot it later. even talked to the owner, who said he rarely brings the car out. guess i'll wait patiently until i see it again...
