what's up?

1957 pontiac star chief

well, it's a new year, but i'm still perusing last year's pics. i haven't been to a car show since the beginning of december...family obligations, rain or cold keeping cars away, or just holiday cancellations. i'll be going bat's ass soon, if i can't get out and take some shots. gonna have to go shoot flowers or something. maybe i should pick another obsession for this year. i think it's supposed to rain tomorrow. shit. tomorrow is another day...

this one was from the show that also was attended by the infamous richard. no, not this car...i wouldn't dare share one of his precious baby. nuff said of you, richard. be gone with you. we are not amused.

there were actually two of these pontiac star chiefs that evening. probably from the same club. this pretty purpley one, and i think the other was green, but unfortunately didn't get a picture of that one – every bit as purrty, but bad location. the owner and some other guy were sitting at this end for quite a while, and seemed disinclined to move, so i thought i'd only get the front with them in the shot. they weren't in their seats the next circuit around the show, so was able to catch this shot. i do love when they got something goin' on in the back, don't you?

1946 pontiac eight

found this pontiac early at last summer's whittier uptown car show. it was overcast that morning, which kept all the stark shadows away. this was parked in the shade, so bonus.

there were a number of pontiacs at the show, and i, of course, had to get shots of all the hood ornaments. but i did also shoot a number of them full body like this. somehow the ornament on this year seems a bit big on the headdress. must be freudian or something.

green with envy

i'm starting to miss taking pictures. of anything, actually. perfect day outside today, and of course, no car shows in the winter on a monday. rain will be coming back tomorrow evening...i wonder if that will scare off the cars at fuddruckers. well, guess i'll find out soon enough.

maybe i should go out to the peterson museum, but i don't think they'd let me bring the tripod in. eh, maybe i should go to a greenhouse and shoot some flowers or bugs or something.

anyway, here's an old chevy that visited the broiler once upon a time on a sunny evening, back in may. i'm sure it was the metallic sparkle paint that caught my eye at the time. it also had a touch of pinstriping, but i don't remember it being overdone.

street art?

2007 chevy corvette

not my typical car, but going on my typical rant.

why do they do this? why take a perfectly fine car and slap silly stickers all over it and plop a whale tail on it? why whore out a car? or would you call it pimped? maintenance? advertising? i could go into stereotypes, but i'm going to behave.

just looks damn silly to me. i came thisclose to getting a corvette back in the 80s, when they switched over from the sexy, sweet classic corvette lines to this new shape and electronic innards. obviously, didn't buy the corvette i'd always thought i'd get, because it wasn't classic, but i still hate to see these rolling billboards of any type.

ok, given this one was probably purposely brought here by one of these sponsors to what, sell their product? use my stuff and your car can look like this? this type of advertising must work or they wouldn't keep doing it. frickin eyesore. this should be caged in on one of the racetracks, where this type of graffiti is expected.

can you tell i'm still in my post holiday mood? i think i'll stick with your classic cars, thanks.

money bag

1939 chevy master deluxe

this pretty thing was at the broiler back in june. it was practically perfect in every way...just like mary poppins. just wondering why guys with these cars put all the knick knacks all over the plate frame and grille. i understand the classic symbolism of the mobil pegasus, felix the cat...but wtf with the gold bag?

i think i'm in a mood. it's the holidays. can't whoop up any cheer, so i'll have to fake it tomorrow. but to everyone else who reads this, happiness to you all, and merry xmas.

feeling blue

blue flame hot rod

on an ordinary wednesday, i'd be heading over to the broiler. but nooooo, it's still raining here. not this instant, but soon enough i know it ain't worth the drive over there.

oh well, i'll just play with my cars now.

i think this is a ‘34 ford, but i'm not betting on it. i've seen it several times before, but never really liked the shots i was getting. while it's still wedged between other cars, i got most of it before the sun sunk too low and cast a shadow across it.

if an engine has to be displayed, this is better than having the hood open and messing up the lines. and i'll squint my eyes and imagine that the blue flames are real and pretend that it's going real fast. :)

whirligiggly

1946 hudson super six

this is actually a truck, supposedly kinda rare, according to it's owner, hank. been a while since i took it, but he came over while i was taking my shots and started telling me all about it. if i remember right, he has a few cars he rotates through this show, though i've never seen this one before or since.

he only stopped telling me all about it when the show organizers interrupted to get him to move the truck, as they were running out of spaces. which is why you don't get to see something showing that it's really a truck. got other cars parked up next to it, and i lost the shot. oh well.

and hank also said he didn't even own a computer, so he won't be seeing it unless someone can show him, or i print him something to see. maybe i'll break down and ask my better half if i can borrow the ipad he bought for me, but i didn't want...a story he enjoys telling repeatedly, and it gets more colorful with each telling, so i can show hank if i see him again.

supposed to rain until the end of the week. i love it. but it sucks...no pictures to take.

anyway, here's a shot of reine's caddy from my first visit to the broiler last year. he's been supportive and encouraging with my work since that first day. so i just wanted to thank him and wish him merry xmas, since i doubt i'll see this caddy again before next year.
