what's up?

hussy

1932 cadillac hood ornament

so we've been trying to go out and walk when i get home, after eight hours on my butt at work, followed by one and a half to two hour drives home in traffic. don't start playing with my pictures until almost eight o'clock, so kinda bummed about that. something has to give, and it's going to have to be this.

so, quick post. love hood ornaments. love my lens, though i don't think as much as i loved my old one that my better half now uses. and when i get the focus just where i want it to be, icing on the cake.

down in flames

1960 cadillac coupe de ville

so i'm running late already today. on my way to the viejitos show and lunch. you know what? decided not to go to work this weekend at all. i'll work late all week. i wanted my weekend too much. and my better half is also so persuasive. :)

i noticed at the legg lake show yesterday, that the tribe was there, even had their tent up. but i didn't see this one. and not even his lincoln. he's a busy guy i guess.

i stayed out among the cars, didn't go up on the grass and talk to anyone. they knew i was there, good enough. i was trying to hurry to go to work, remember?

anyway, this one from the whittier show in august was ready, so i'll just post it now and be done with it. the flames, the flames, the cursed flames. guess the early light was good enough to pop the ghost flames off the hood.

no parking

1966 cadillac

its late, and i've already had a long week at work, with more of the same next week. so i'll keep it short, with this long car.

i like how they post "no parking" signs up and down the street for a couple of days before the uptown show, then leave them up during the show, where everyone is obviously parked. i know, i know. the signs are for us ordinary people and our ordinary cars, but they still make me laugh to see the big fancy cars parked there in front of them anyway. don't know why. i'm just in a mood.

here's a new (to me, anyway) tribe car. they joked a bit with the owner and told him to make nice with me. i guess this is why.

coming & going

1941 cadillac

i spied this one driving around the circuit on the last day in riverside. i hoped i would be able to find it parked somewhere before i left.

i was across the street shooting the rambler i posted yesterday, when i spied it here across the street on the corner. i was trying to hurry from the rambler so i could get to it before they possibly took off again, but the owner of the rambler was busy telling me her story. then i watched as the owner of the car popped the hood for a crowd of guys, and i kinda slowed down. why, why?

i took a couple of shots of the rambler and headed over to this one anyway. the group had mostly left, and the guy sitting with it saw me trying to shoot the hood ornament, and offered to close the hood for me. even better i said.

his story was that the car belonged to his father-in-law, and he had fixed it up. i thought it was pretty stunning and asked if he thought it had won anything. he said, no way, there were much better cars there in his opinion. dude, this one is a beauty, have some confidence. and thanks for closing the hood.

the need for speed

1960 cadillac

why do people drive like a-holes? especially when traffic is slow for everyone? always is one richard that thinks he's way more important, and if he can get one car ahead, he's winning.

even better when there are two douchebags racing each other through traffic. and even if i'm going the speed limit, or even a "bit" faster, they still happen to be going faster, and still manage to almost clip the front of my car. i'm all for an adrenaline rush, but roller coasters are a safer way to go for everyone. i don't want to die on the road, just because those pricks are running late for whatever stupid excuse. and i'm on the road a lot. idiots.

early morning drives to work are extra fun with the big trucks a plenty. they like to kinda drift into my lane. and i suspect, they get cut off a lot more frequently, by the itty bitty cars. i always try to give them lots of warning that i need to get over. most often, they let me move. and if there's one that won't, i'm not going to argue with him...go ahead big boy...i'm not in that big a hurry.

whatever.

holiday weekend. everyone else in the house has been working on a cold all week. so, guess what i got for the weekend? yup. got me a cold. stayed down yesterday. today, the house has been invaded again by the unsuspecting niece and nephew and their significant others. drove down from east jesus nowhere (i like the movie juno) for one day, going back tomorrow. i think they intend to go to disneyland, but they've been here for an hour, and are just chatting with gramma and my better half. maybe i'll sneeze on them—here take that with you—merry xmas.

is this a '60 or '61? don't know why the sky turns red only here at the broiler. must be a trick of the lights and the sunset. always nice when a good car parks in just the right spot, don't you think?

wonderful pointy things

1960 cadillac de ville

here it is. again. little dvill. also from the last uptown show. his club helped out with the early, so freakin early, set up of the show. no crowds. no stark shadows. only thing better than the early morning light would be the misty fog of past years shows.

have always, always been fascinated with this car. all the pointy wonderments on the back. it could take out an eye or a kneecap. or enable self-neutering.

the ghostly flames on the front. the paint so polished, you could stare at it until you felt like falling down the rabbit hole.

he's been hiding this puppy, preferring his shiny lincoln this past year. thankfully, he has people. and those people helped bring it out for the show.

i don't like coffee

1962 cadillac

can't stand the smell of it. can't imagine how foul that inky molten sludge must taste as it scorches down your throat. flavored varieties just add an overtone to the stench below.

no thanks. i prefer my caffeine cold. gimme a coke anytime. though, if you think about it, is probably just as bad for you. rusts nails and stuff. wonder if it would remove tarnish off of silverware?

anyway, besides the point. these cadillac guys are almost always here at bob's. they play musical chairs with the parking spots. this one got lucky tonight, out from under the roof of the drive-up, and below the neon. and just a hint of the last of the sunset. and the white paint really reflects all of that color back.

haven't been there in over a month. now the time has changed, and it gets dark early. in spite of the longer drive from the new office, i still got there about five-thirty. apparently, still too early for much to be there, but i just didn't feel like waiting. going to "bed" "early," if you can call nine-thirty early.

sun kissed

1954 chevy bel air

i am still wrestling with space issues on my hard drive. thinking i'll burn off  stuff back to earlier than 2009, stuff i hardly ever look at. just makes sense.

meanwhile, i was bad and attempted to hit up three car shows today. apparently a mistake, as it being veteran's day, they were mostly canceled. drove out to torrance. cadillac show at the dealership there. they had them parked in the service tunnel, and didn't seem to be much parking nearby, so i didn't stop. i know, i know. probably were more hiding on the inside, but if i don't go looking for other pics online, i won't miss them.

then tried another show that should have also been out there, but nothin was there at all. i did pass a park that seemed to have an informal muscle car show going on, but you know those don't really get me going much, so i drove on by it. fortunately, my backup planned worked out...my little bro lives nearby, so i hung out over there for a few hours.

on the way home, i took a quick swoop by the fuddrucker's in lakewood. must have been cancelled for the day, but there were still a couple of diehards sitting there polishing their cars. didn't stop there either.

so nothing for today, but long overdue family time. so win anyway.

i've been pondering which version of a temptations truck i should post. still haven't decided, so i'll put up this lovely viejitos chevy. probably should have waited until the sun had gone down a bit more, but still nice.

was that your club i saw cruising down whittier blvd today?

look at that, look at that cadillac

1962 cadillac

so when i was getting my degree in graphic design, i took a few photography classes. both photography and design classes required that you put your work up on the wall so everyone could pick it apart. the theory was that if you knew what wasn't working, you'd know how to do better next time.

you also learned pretty quickly how to defend your work, why you chose to put it up. started to put only what you considered your best, what you were willing to stand by, irrelevant of other's opinions. so there's the reason i never do a photo dump. don't waste space with every little fart in the wind.

i post these few cars up here because they please my eye. they're a record of where i've been, memories of light on that day. i hope they delight you as much as they do for me.

so i've spent the last few times out chasing sunsets. longer exposures make it harder to get shots without some blur of a person walking into the frame. but still having fun, so i'll keep shooting, at least for now.

bitch

1960 cadillac deville

what is it about guys and high maintenance women? you all know the ones i'm talking about—the ones that dress up for a day at disneyland and wear high heels, then spend all day bitching about how their feet hurt. the ones that the guys want to have, then spend the rest of their lives regretting. she's fine as long as she doesn't say anything, but then she does, and has nothing to say. and the claws come out if she thinks you're looking at other chicks.

i wonder if this car is like that. reine has been favoring his lincoln for the last bunch of months. has she been suffering from imaginary aches and pains all year? she's been a kept woman. hidden away in some garage in never-never land, getting nips and tucks, and apparently tipped. on the hubcaps. i noticed.

thanks for bringing her out to play for the day, reine. i did miss her, even if she is a bitch to photograph. j/k.
