quick post again. tired. too many late nights starts to catch up eventually.
here's another from sunday's fuddruckers show in lakewood. don't believe the owner ever was around. maybe he/she/they were inside overdosing on burgers and fries.
not completely happy with tbirds, but slim pickens' at this show. and it was so nice and shiny.
my better half had to work all weekend. he's still there now. happy easter. pfft.
vacuumed the house, stopped by my parents' house to say howdy, then thought i'd get off my butt and get back in the saddle. surprisingly, i saw there were several shows listed for today, and thought i'd see what might show up on a holiday. i figured anyone with kids wouldn't be able to get away...kind of a requirement to be there. i expected to find old guys, single guys, and couples with no kids.
i skipped a show near my mom's, since it was about time for it to be over, and the good ones don't hang around for the end. instead, i drove up to the show at fuddrucker's in lakewood. i've seen it on the list for a while, and figured without going to one of the big parks and bothering picnicing car clubs, it was the best bet to see a few cars.
there were actually more than i expected, but not as many as there must usually show up. and in spite of not getting out to the shows much, my shyness was not allowed to reclaim me – almost as soon as i arrived an old navy guy came over and started chatting me up as i started to shoot this old ford.
wasn't his, but someone else he was hanging with. said he had one, but either a year earlier or a year later, and not at the show. told a long story about how much it costs to get these cars up to par and the hunt for parts. he'd had his ford at some shop that kept putting him off, asking for more money for this and that, and after it got to $27,000 and no actual work being completed on his car, he pulled it from that shop and shipped it out to arizona, where they were progressing nicely for much less. said he was going to sue the original shop...oh yeah i listen to these stories, and if i post the picture soon enough, i remember more details than i should. i blame you guys that want to tell me all this stuff...and this wasn't even his car. it's all right. he was entertaining, the sun wasn't going down, and it gave time for more cars to show up.
anyway, he knew all about this car, and several other old cars that pulled in. he walked me around this one pointing out parts and asking me to guess how much it was for a replacement part. he said the owner claims to have never washed this car, and only wipes it down to clean it. all i wanted to know is why they painted this such a shiny black, then airbrushed some funky looking flames there on the running boards, which just look like fallen leaves from this angle.
oh ya, i'm doing a trial thing for ordering prints. click on that button down at the bottom on the right. haven't posted many, and if you're interested and don't see yours there, shoot me an email, and i'll upload it for ordering. figured it would be easier, since my better half says i'm kinda scary at car shows...i'd prefer focused...and usually when someone does ask what sizes/what prices, i can't remember them off the top of my head. so give it a peek anyway.

my better half says it's valentines day every day, but then he also says it's his birthday, so he celebrates every day. these things usually said while he looks into my eyes. may you all be so lucky...
well, i'm tired. didn't feel like going to a car show for the last couple of days. maybe i'm catching a cold, i don't know. thought i'd play with this car, since its so freakin yellow, happy and bright.
the picture came out nice, but i don't feel any better. guess i'll go to bed.
t buckets are interesting beasts. they're old, but you'd never know it, they way they're polished up and perfect. all angles and chrome and wire rims. much too fastidious or should i say meticulous? not a bad thing, but i think you'd have to be a little ocd to keep this type of ride this clean and spotless. not for me, but thanks for letting me park my tripod in front of them.
i've been to a few shows the past couple of weeks. feels good to get out and shoot. met some new people, chatted with people i've met the past couple of years. so much for forgetting old acquaintances, right? silly idea anyway.
i hadn't been to fuddruckers in a while. they finally finished up with all the construction in the parking lot, so hopefully the show will pick up again.
this was a striking color combination on this old car. not quite sure what year it is, but i'm sure somebody can tell me.
i cropped this image down to 8x10 proportions, but thinking maybe i should have left it as it was...more of the sky would have been better, since it really was pretty as the sun was setting.
i think i need to recalibrate this monitor yet again...it's looking a little yellow to me...how's it for you?
one more from the broiler around xmas time, with the lights still up.
i've seen this one several times, but i don't think i've ever posted it. i like the night time shots—they pick up light from all the different angles: overhead, from the restaurant, the neon signs, headlights of cars coming into the lot or backing out—seems to perk up the colors and enhances reflections. helps make a plain vanilla car more interesting.
gotta get out and shoot some fresh images, though i have plenty from the last couple of years to keep me busy for a long time, when the rain comes.
i've seen this t-bird several times at the broiler. never can quite get the angle that i want. as i've said before, i should probably start carrying around a ladder, so i can get higher shots when the cars have detail on top.
the funky art deco paint pattern in off-white on a rusty-type matte brown, make me think of a alien craft that has traveled quite far, and by alien standards, is a late model for them too. the pattern is reversed out on the roof, with rust and white on an off-white or silver background - i can't remember right now. strange colors from the lighting only add to the atmosphere. now if it had just been a bit foggy...
it has "slow dancer" painted on the side of the roof, which running through my mind, points to several different interpretations, and i can only wonder what it really means.
the other day i tried on an old pair of glasses, and had a curious thought, in light of the holiday spirit; i wondered if i looked through them, would i, could i see things the same way i used to? as things used to be? no, i don't drink; was just spending a quiet new year's at home, and had too much time to think.
well, of course the old glasses didn't make me see stuff any other way but blurry, but it was an interesting thought, and besides, they were only a couple of years old. i'd need my really old ones to see some interesting things, but unfortunately, i suppose someone in india or africa is enjoying my old specs.
so it's a new year. but i'm still digging through last year's pics. i tried to hit a car show today, but apparently, they still considered it a holiday, and no one showed up, but me. hope that doesn't indicate how the rest of my year will go. maybe i should finally cut my hair...
i did see several old cars driving around in various cities i passed through, a few i recognized from shows i'd been to the past couple of years. strange how you get to recognize some of them out the corner of your eye, as you speed by.
here's an old ford from last fall's cruzin for roses show in pasadena. it's been teasing me since september, just itching to be played with, but i haven't bothered with it until now. it just looks cute from this angle. shame it was up at the end of the block under a tree, and caught too much shade in its shiny paint. the reflected tree is still interesting, but i know those big, round fenders could have been really wonderful on a cloudy day, away from the trees.
couple of cobras in henderson, nv. i haven't seen a lot of these around here, but there were three of them on this day. yeesh, i pounded the pixels the previous one. i like this one better.
i suppose i won't make it to this show again until next september, which is unfortunate. seemed to be a lot of interesting cars, and they said that was not even a quarter of what normally shows up...it was kinda rainy that day. at least it wasn't a typical sweltering day in vegas baby.
and there were a few other shows in the area that week, but i was too busy to check them out. at least i can vicariously enjoy them via my flickr friend, darkhorse68's photostream.
