what's up?

very continental

very continental

i was about ready to pack it up the other day at fuddrucker's el toro, when this incredible 1947 lincoln continental pulls in. wow. stretched body, clean. i have never seen one before...i'm always on the lookout for models i haven't shot yet, and here was the prize for this day.

i have images of the back end too. had to wait patiently for a little girl to get out of the frame. she kept flitting about with her cell phone, keyboard out, but pointing it at cars (maybe it had a camera, maybe she was just dancing with herself, oh oh ah ahhhhh) while her parents talked to the owner of the next car over.

choice of politely waiting or losing the light, as the sun was setting...sometimes it's difficult to bite my tongue. i try not to be too intrusive, but really...how difficult is it to not notice a camera on a tripod and someone staring at you?

night noise

night caddy

this caddy was sitting in the darker part of the side lots of the garden grove main street show. i bet reine would know what year this puppy is. (hint hint)

so unfortunate, since it was a nice car, with the prerequisite fins i love so much; fortunate that more cars were driving in while i took my exposures, to add a bit of light, pop and flares. its a little scruffier finish than i like to do, but when they hide in the dark, they make a lot of noise.

twins, basil...

hot rod

i found this in my old ’hood, at the TGIFridays in rancho santa margarita. i guess they used to do a car show. this was when i was really just starting this stuff last year. only went a couple of times; both times not much there, and then it dropped off the radar.

anyway, i don't know what the heck it is, yeah, it's custom all right. look at me, look at me. so, does it go twice as fast? is it a spare? why not do three? is he compensating? wonder where he drives it. at least it didn't have those rubber or metal boy bolts hanging off the back underneath. those are just stupid. lol.

just made me laugh. otherwise, i guess it would be a cool car.

was all in the family

packard 120

this packard one-twenty (i think the owner said this was a 1936), at the santa ana elk's pal joey dream car revue, had been in a family for three generations. this owner recently acquired it from the grandson of the original owner, not sure if it was financial necessity, or just that the guy was just more interested in restoring old model t's. anyway, he said it was all original parts, and hadn't been restored yet...he's only had it a few months.

and while shooting this one, finally met the famous dave lindsay, of http://www.socalcarculture.com who introduced himself. nice guy. talked camera tech talk with my husband for a long time.

the future’s so bright...

1937 plymouth

oh my this ’37 plymouth was practically fluorescent. a real bitch to try and get the color the way i remembered it here. it might actually be a smidge more orange or maybe yellow...i'll have to hold up a print next to the real thing...if i see it again. the color is out of gamut, for those photo/graphic techno geeks out there.

real clean machine though. damn. i think my eyes are burning. lol.

that's hot

1932 ford roadster

this 1932 roadster was at the dove canyon show, at the 'friends' sports bar back in march. i've also seen it at fuddruckers. took this shot right before the owners called it a day. looks like it would be fun to drive, but what a mess it would make of your hair. lol.

thinking about going to pal joey's dream car revue tomorrow in santa ana. took quite a few pictures while i was there last time, and have bumped in to more than a few of those cars at other shows (not literally). nice people too. i'm so tired today...been a long week at work...just looking through some of my older pics. nice to have so many to choose from, and so many waiting for processing...sometimes i wish it would rain more often.

it bugs me

chevy truck

sometimes i find some really nice cars parked in bad places. at least for a picture. this old chevy truck was parked, understandably, in the shade on a hot day. by a transformer. and the trash bin hideout thingy. this was the better side. the other shot had too many people in it, and bags of trash on the ground behind it. shame really because i like the giant grills on these trucks. maybe another time, i'll find a better angle.

duke's baby

duke's baby

i've seen this 1950 oldsmobile 88 fastback at several shows now. this was last year at the ruby's in whittier show. the owner (i'm pretty sure his name is duke for some reason) spoke to me briefly at the geezers show at the garden grove elk's club back in march. said he was the original owner, and had bought it brand new back in the day. it looks like it drove off the line today, if you ever get to see it in person. just remarkable condition.

it's funny looking through these images from last year—maybe the second car show i'd ever been to with the camera—to see so many of the cars that i've gotten to be very familiar with in the last couple of months. actually, i think some of those shots that day are better than what i've been getting lately, since it was september, the sun was setting earlier, and there were really cool clouds blowing across the sky that night. i do remember it being so very warm that night, and packing up early.

fabulous thunderbird?

58 thunderbird

check out this awesome 1958 thunderbird from tonight's downey show at the broiler. it was pretty clean, if you didn't look too long at the bumpers. had a little gnarly rust going on, but nothing that took away from the lines of the car. got a shot of the back end as well...maybe some other day.

not a lot of variety or cars i like to shoot tonight. figure between the rain last night and the chill in the air, a lot of people stayed home. still nice to get out after sitting in front of my computer all day at work.

that guy on the left thought i wanted a picture of his butt, since i was on the ground. no thanks. lol.
