what's up?

sky is the limit

looking forward to a weekend in san diego, and the chicano park car show. still a week and a half away...can't get here soon enough.

it's been a tough few weeks at work, with one of the other designers off on a three week vacation. i was stressed out yesterday, with all the deadlines piling up, and just trying to prioritize which were real and which could slip a bit. just got a bit paralyzed for a bit while deciding. boss came by just as a rush request came in by email, and let's just say for someone who is typically very quiet, i might have had a small cow, man.

he checked on me again in the afternoon, and asked if i needed to go home and basically chill. thoughts of getting a punching bag in the office crossed my mind, or one of those inflatable clowns that really only last for one swift kick before they pop, with the sandbag flying. that' a good sign it's time to plan my own vacation.

maybe tomorrow my better half and i can just pull a destination out of a hat, since both of us, are overworked, and anywhere together would be good.

someone commented on my flickr site that it was about time i posted something besides a chevy. but how could i not? this ford, with this sky, just had to shoot it. but really, i shoot more than just chevys; what gets posted is whatever appeals to me on any particular day.

if someone tells me story about a car, i'll retell it in a post, usually not as well as i was told. my memory eludes me, if i don't take notes or post it that night. or if they ask to see a picture of their car, i highlight it in my files, and try to get one up fairly soon.

and the rest of them, that i post, are just for me, because they make me happy, and they make my better half go, "dam...why didn't i see that one?"

i spent the weekend in riverside at the show and go. not as much time at the show as i'd have liked, because my foot isn't totally healed and i could only take so much time walking around. my better half would have helped if he'd been able to be there, but no, he's still working on that deadline. missed a really great room i had over at the inn, but it worked out perfect because i could go crash when it got too hot and when i couldn't walk any farther.

i talked to several people over the three days i was there, and should they happen to be looking for their car, be patient. i have a day job, go to shows when i can, and i squeeze in the pictures here as i can get to them in the evenings if i'm not too tired. please check back—i try to put cars up of the people i talk to before others.

i took over 1,600 pictures over three days, and i've spent the evening sorting them and backing them up. so quick post now. this one belongs to jimmie. really, really clean fairlane. he was, of course, curious what i was doing behind his car and came over to chat a bit. i took a few angles of the car, but this one was my favorite. so jimmie, as i was saying, click here if you are interested in buying a print.

gotta catch some sleep now. up early for work and wondering if it's going to rain, or if the weathermen are just being incompetent as usual. but i hope they're right. my birthday is coming, and really, i just want it to rain. i'd rather it be raining and i was hearing it on the roof of a cottage in solvang, but i guess if it was just raining, that would be good enough.

fine day

in spite of being unable to get out to all the shows i'd like, my kid has been kicking ass in baseball. in fact, today, he went to bat five times: 3 singles, 1 double with an rbi, and one intentional walk. ya, i missed the game because of work today. sucks.

found this one out in riverside. got there early because the show started only an hour before the game was to start. kinda stalker like. was waiting for something interesting to drive up. several plain, but very nice old cars, but i wasn't interested in shooting them. but since i'd already spent a while here, and time to leave was looming, i figured i might as well get the camera and shoot at least one.

i did end up taking shots of about 5 cars before it got too late. nothing special, but i'm just making a record that i was there.

minty fresh

one more from the broiler around xmas time, with the lights still up.

i've seen this one several times, but i don't think i've ever posted it. i like the night time shots—they pick up light from all the different angles: overhead, from the restaurant, the neon signs, headlights of cars coming into the lot or backing out—seems to perk up the colors and enhances reflections. helps make a plain vanilla car more interesting.

gotta get out and shoot some fresh images, though i have plenty from the last couple of years to keep me busy for a long time, when the rain comes.
