what's up?

why?

so this gorgeous truck wasn't quite in the show at st hilary's, but in the parking lot just outside. sometimes i find some extraordinary cars just outside of the best shows, in parking lots, on the street, around the block.

i figure it's the entry fee, they arrived after the lot got too full, or just too late to enter the competition. otherwise, i just don't know. come on, guys like to whip'em out and compare them, so come on inside the gate and play the game.

the only thing i really don't like on this otherwise perfecto truck, is the stupid, asinine bullet hole sticker on the front, just next to the headlight. i just don't get those. you want a bullet hole on your car, just shoot it already.

home again

i survived my week in washington state. didn't want to disappoint the kid, so dutifully marched all over the place, or rather gimped. by the end of the week, though i had to nix the three hour car ride to hike in a rain forest. did the space needle instead. just got back to the car when it started to rain, then hail...so that was pretty cool. thunder is very loud over puget sound.

she thought i'd enjoy the lemay auto museum, and it was really interesting, but as they all go, no tripods allowed, and stuff is roped off, so i mostly focused on hood ornaments. i don't know when i'll find time to go through all the pictures i took.

i'm running on four hours of sleep, and getting home after getting picked up from the airport is a story in itself. and a panic run to the tax preparer and race to the post office to pay uncle sam. and i still don't feel much better than when i left on the trip.

anyway, here's another truck. found it on the fringe of a car show; i hope only because there were no spaces available in the main lot. nice ride. like the pinstripes.

taking a trip

should be an interesting week ahead. still getting over whatever it is—bronchitis, a cold, i have no idea—and still wearing the cyborg leg. heading north and i'm really wishing i could just cancel the trip and sleep. my better half is staying here—when you gotta work, you gotta work and is mostly out of vacation time.

thought i should get vertical for a couple of hours, so though i'm not really feeling it, started flipping through a couple years of pictures. i couldn't decide what to post. this isn't the best picture, but i still like it. night shots at the broiler are always interesting, and never know what kind of colors will pop up with the lighting.

also starting to think about entering a few pictures at the fair again. i can't decide what i like best, which wouldn't necessarily be anything the judges would pick. if you have any favorites, drop me an email.

think i'll go lay down again. still have one more day before i go, so maybe i'll post again.

spacing out

i thought about going to the mooneyes show today. really i did. but decided to skip it. i'm seriously going to run out space on my hard drive, and i intend to go to two shows tomorrow. already was invited to go to one of them tomorrow, so i'll make a day of it.

that will probably be it until after the holidays. missed the thanksgiving sales on drives, so hoping they go back down after xmas. i'm going to have to go through some of my older pictures and "edit" out the ones that are just not worth the time or space, that i'll never do anything with anyway.

meanwhile, i'm just going through some of favs. like this truck; liked the reflections on the hood. not too many people around, this far down the main street. always wonder who buys the crap they sell in that rustic furniture store, but the paint colors of the buildings do go well with the green of the truck.

move, please

been seeing a new car club over at the broiler the last few times. they have a few nice cars that i'd like to shoot. but the thing is, usually, one of their cars parks in front of their other cars, which are parked in the spaces and then the group of big guys (literally) stands around in front of the cars, or near the doors, of the ones i'd like to shoot, and glare at everyone. my better half says that's my thing, glaring at everyone, and they stay away. i suppose i could ask them to move, but usually i just wait people out if they don't clue in on the girl with the camera, or else wait until some other opportunity.

well, last wednesday, they were doing the usual, and i passed by several times. finally, when i was done for the evening, and heading over to the wall to pack my gear, i noticed that the pod had shifted slightly to the left of this car. so i squeezed in between the pod and the car parked in front of them and got this shot. not the best, but i got it.

shady lady

1953 chevy 3100 truck

haven't seen this truck since last year, when they used to have a show at chubby's in anaheim. i'd shot it on several visits there, and the last time i'd seen the owner he was interested in buying a print. but the day i showed up with an 8x10, he'd just put new wheels on it, and now it didn't match the picture, so he didn't want it. oh well, another for my book.

so here i saw it at angelos, another show i hadn't been to since last year. never well attended, at least the handful of times i'd stopped, i had hopes there would be more since the show further up the street has been cancelled. saw the truck, and a couple of other guys by it, but not the owner i remembered. wondered if he was inside having dinner, or if he'd sold the truck. the guys by the truck didn't say anything, and just sat talking to each other in spanish.

as i was finishing up with a few shots, the owner did emerge from the restaurant, and come over to say hello. yes, i remembered him and his truck. i always remember the car. mostly i remember the owners if they've taken the moment to say hello or make a comment.

i liked that the truck was parked here on the end of the row, actually not a real parking spot. i did not like that he parked here under a tree, when the shade sucks the intensity and richness of the color out of a car. but i shoot it as i find it, so fiddle dee dee.

and as far as yesterday's drama with my pictures, the problem was resolved. my favorite framer took care of it, whereby i dropped off the pictures at 6am. he had them redone by 10am. i dropped them off at the fairgrounds before 11am. i did mention the ambiguity in the wording of the rules to one of the judge types accepting entries at the tables. he said he thought they'd clarified it better, but apparently not enough. i gotta do something nice for my framer, who busted his ass to help me, though he reassured me that they would have been fine as they were.

saw this truck a couple of weeks ago at the broiler. it's pretty interesting. the patterns and the paint give this otherwise plain jane truck some attitude. is it more bad ass with that dent on the front bumper? that must have been a pisser of a day.

________

went to the broiler this evening. not really much going on. a lot of the same cars i've shot before. didn't stay long. i blame it on the full moon.

did get irritated by some granny with a plain truck. i was in the midst of doing a set of exposures, when she, apparently the owner, decided to open the door and sit in the truck. then lean out the window and ask what i was doing with the pictures. told her i put them on my blog if i like the shot.

she stared at me. then, the got out of the truck, leaving the door open, to go chat with her buds behind the truck. buttholio. eh. was a throw away shot anyway. she either was being obtuse, or was just passive aggressive enough to not tell me she'd prefer i didn't shoot it.

i could make an ok shot of the frames she didn't eff up, but i'd just end up ripping her as richard the second. best leave her to her anonimity, and delegate her truck to the non-existent category in my eyes. blithering idiot.

keep on truckin’

1953 chevy 3100 truck

so when i got to chubby's early last friday, this truck was one of the bunch of cars already there. guess he really wanted to pick a good spot. yet another of the latin gents squad, he was waiting for his buds to show up.

i took a bunch of shots, different angles. shocker here...it has hydraulics, and of course he angled it up on one side, so i took some more. unfortunately, shooting from the other side wasn't so interesting, so they all pretty much look like this, except for a couple from the front.

anyway, i liked this one best out of all of them. he moved the truck later, and perhaps it would have been a better spot, but i didn't take anymore of it...my memory card was getting full, and there were other cars to take. another time, another shot.
