what's up?

flowers in your hair...

this is halloween, halloween...skipped it this year. worked from home. then hid in the back bedroom, and watched game of thrones reruns. just didn't feel like dealing with the kiddos. busy street, lots of peeps usually.

we have a giant basket of candy. fortunately, most of it is stuff i don't like. my better half and his mom mostly love passing the stuff out, throwing handfulls into trick or treat bags.

unusually, they turned off the light way early, and he went to bed.

out front, there's a practically untouched basket of candy. i guess i'll find out tomorrow what happened. [my mother-in-law just told me it's our stupid neighbor's fault. dressed in black with a white mask and a dagger at the bottom of the stairs. basically scaring the kids away. college frat boy / fat boy ass. he's a douche; doesn't everybody have a neighbor like that? only, he isn't in college anymore, so go figure.]

anyway, it just suddenly started to pour rain outside. about damn time. i love when it rains.

i don't love that i have to get up way early in the morning to take my car in for servicing. supposed to be cold. and still raining.

thinking about doing a little rework on the website this weekend, so it may go down for a bit. hopefully, i won't eff it all up.

saw this motorcycle at the dia de los muertos art and car show earlier in the month. quick shot. he left soon after, so glad i shot it.

wondering around pomona last weekend, early in the morning. sun coming up. his hood down. wishing the guy next to him had done the same, but really liked this fleetline. this car is blue on blue, but the sun hitting it, is making it look green.

apparently, my better half wandered by the same car at some point, and chatted with the owner. he mentioned that he'd seen me shoot this car in san pedro as well, and was interested in seeing any shots i had of the car. ya, he did want to see my better half's shots, but my better half hardly posts anymore, so told the guy he'd have better luck asking me.

so both the owner and his wife emailed me separately inquiring about it. he parks it in with the bridgetown club, but i'm not clear that he is part of the club.

found at least three shots of it. two of my favs were from pomona, several months apart. i did find the one shot from san pedro, but it's kinda weak, more from the front.

here's the other one from pomona.

fishin’

here's one from the summer, from the viejitos ela show, which i got way too busy to play with more shots. i'd spent the morning in chevy heaven in the back lot of the broiler. had gotten hot, so i was taking a break in the shade of the overhang.

the owner of this car pulled in with this fleetline on a trailer. too precious to drive, i guess, and i don't really blame him. well, he backed it down the ramp, and it just sat there for a bit. so, of course, i went over and had it all to myself. at least until someone told him to move it and the trailer out of the way. and people were mostly ignoring it for the time being.

pretty simple lines. just that fishin’ pole for decoration.

i'll take one, please.

niner fan

this impala was wonderful to look at, with it's high polish. spotted it driving through the lot and followed it over here by the grandstand. sun hadn't gotten up too high at that point, light was still golden.

of course, the owner was almost instantly pulling stuff from the trunk. i took a couple of shots of it before he got set up with whatever he was pulling out of the back. didn't like those shots, with the trunk up and his butt/back peeking through just a tad.

ended up stopping by again later. still intrigued by the shine of the hood, and took a few more in spite of the damn pop-up parked right up against the back. so i only have shots of the front and the side. none of the back end. oh well. at least the pop up is something other than blue.

weathered fine

i was awakened at five in the morning by some a-hole playing some crap rap music at max volume outside. went on for a while. i looked out the window trying to figure out where it was coming from. two houses across the street had the lights on, but the way the sound bounces around in the early hours, couldn't tell where it was coming from. sounded more like the house up on the corner.

guessing the elderly neighbor called the cops, because one eventually showed up. parked next to a car just nearby. he left. the music shut off. some stupid kid gets out and walks across the street and down an alley. stupid jerk.

since i was up anyway, i decided to go out to pomona's swap meet. woke the better half up, since he had mentioned he'd like to go sometime. after waiting forever for him to get ready, we didn't arrive until about the time the sun was already rising. and we were already late...the lot was pretty damn full.

his first time there, so he was pretty impressed by all the cars there. he took time to walk down a few rows of the swap meet stuff too. i haven't even done that. always taking pictures until it gets too hot to continue.

he said the pavement is pretty broken up there, so that i should spare my roller bag with my cameras in it. bouncing is bad for the sensor, or at least shake the dust onto it.

blah blah blah. found this old caddy in the sea of cars. for one, i love the back fins on this year, with the funky lights. but hell, look at that peeling paint. lots of texture. the chrome is kinda crap too. weathered. i think they like to call that patina, right?

black widow

i saw this car up on philadelphia, with it's club, lo nuestro, and thought i recognized it. went back behind it to check out the altar set up and found this:

i took a bunch of shots before the owner asked the usual questions. lots of details on this car. hard to decide where to look first.

i asked her if she had been at the chicano park show back in april. yep. that's where it was. i remembered exactly where it was parked—right here on the grass, in the middle of the park:

on another note...i had been on call to do some work today for the office. waited at home all day, until about four. decided it wasn't going to happen today, and decided i was going to drive out to covina to check out the real classics car show. i've had their card sitting on a shelf for several months now; one of many that have been handed to my better half to be passed on to me. supposedly their halloween show.

i got about half way there, when they sent me a message that the file was ready to work on, so i had to drive all the way back home to do ten minutes worth of work. then wait for the ok. so, by the time they approved it, i figured if i got back in the car and drove up there, i'd have about fifteen minutes before the sun went down. decided to wait until next month. they'll be having a food drive then...

thinking of going to the pomona swap meet tomorrow, before it gets too hot out. hoping the morning clouds that have been out for several days, are still around. they make the sky more interesting, and reflect so well on the polished cars.

and i also have a flyer for a groupe ela car show...maybe could swing by there on the way home...

behinds

back from vacation. went to dc. was fun, weather was perfect. even ended with a lightly rainy day. better half lost his iphone six plus, then after a dramatic story, got it back. what are the chances of that? should have bought a lottery ticket.

day after we get back, hey, dia de los muertos show up the street. the past few years, about a dozen cars have been there. this year, wow, maybe fifty, maybe a hundred are down there. i basically was there most of the day. still tired from the trip, but had fun. then had to drive down to my mom's. just been going non-stop since...so first time back with my pics.

and i'm off again...so here's a quick shot for some dude who asked about my photography. like i said, love the back ends of the old caddies. all about the fins.

along comes mary

so another photographer, who i think actually does work for a magazine, print or otherwise, had this guy move his car over here by the fountain. bunch of guys on the wall said so, and seemed to be in a particularly fine mood for this time of day. not sure if they'd been partaking of the red solo cups or just feeling giggly.

i don't ask people to move their cars; just shoot'em as i find them, hopefully without too many poles and wires in the background. hey, its a great composition, so i shot it too. all the while wondering how he got it wedged in here without bumping anything or the other cars that were parked in the spaces behind me. must have used the airbags to get it up and over the curbs.

and what's up with mary? she' tied up with wonder woman's lasso. nah, just a rosary, oddly draped on her. somebody must have low fived her too hard, since she's also missing a hand.
