what's up?

fire within

quick post, as i run off to catch a plane to san fran to attend a two-day business meeting. gotta come back saturday to turn in my pics for the fair. kind of a bummer, as i'd prefer to have stayed the weekend, but on the other hand...i got stuff that will be hanging at the fair. so yay. better half says i'm a winner whether i get a ribbon or not...just getting selected is enough to celebrate.

sooooo tired. too much work this week. almost thought i was going to have to get a job done before i left, but it's looking like i will have to miss part of the meeting and use the boss's computer to finish. not my fault if they miss their deadline. blame the ceo.

when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. ttfn.

twofer

made it out to rialto yesterday. really need to get there very early to not get hit by the heat that radiates from the big fireball in the sky. i know that, but i just didn't get out of bed early enough.

hadn't felt good the night before, after eating dinner at one of the local bbq places. so was pretty unsure about wanting to go that far to the show. but i've enjoyed it the last couple of years, so figured i'd be ok. i could always check-in at a hotel if need be.

i parked near the other end of the strip this year, the less crowded part. this was the first car i wanted to get a shot of. always go for the old chevy. beautiful.

turns out this car was one i saw in riverside last month. i have a couple shots of it there, with the hood up, and showing the john 3:16 message in there with the engine. i know this because the owner offered to let me see the engine, if i wanted to shoot that too, but no, i prefer the hood down look. if he really wants to see the other shots, he can let me know, and i'll post them here.

he can click here to buy a print of either of these.

briefly considered finding a movie theatre and hanging out for several hours to allow me to go to a couple of afternoon shows in colton and covina, but just didn't feel like it. as it was, there was a sig alert on the 10, so had to get down to the 60. was an easy drive, even with the idiots driving crazy out there.

got home, downloaded my pictures, rested a bit, and then went over the groupe car show in santa fe springs. close-by, and quick. probably missed more cars being there, but what was left was enough.

got a headache right now, but really wanting to go to santa ana to the viejitos/pistoles show. then maybe lunch at disneyland. if my mother-in-law is really feeling up to it. almost eleven and she's still sleeping...

a bit of perspective

there is a crazy woman in the house on the corner. luxuriating in outbursts turrets-like, showering profanities on those lucky enough to be in earshot. one woman, who happened by with a couple of chihuahuas too close to her yard, was cursed and her little beasties called an assortment of names not to be here repeated.

i was almost afraid she was going to bound out of her house with either a loaded gun or a large kitchen knife at any moment, to keep the imaginary people off her lawn, and from staring at the spectacle that was herself. fruit loop. or maybe a harpie. haven't decided.

anyway, the solitos co-hosted the show with the church. they parked a number of their cars up and down the street in front of the church, so that's where i was too.

starting with this one, because i liked the angle and the perspective looking down the street. also that it pissed off the old hag something fierce.

his own, personal, jesus

i've been spotting some really incredible impalas lately. clean, etched, engraved, hydraulics, airbrushed and pinstriped.

saw this stylistics car at the church show too.

what might that man be looking at in the trunk besides the engraved hydralical system? ah, there it is now...

the girl on the wheel cover must have been calling him earlier... >:)

so finny

one more for the day, then off to bed.

this one from yesterday at the solitos/whittier foursquare church show. it's a viejitos car. i've probably posted it before, but usually it's ass up against a wall, so difficult to get a nice low angle of the back end.

don't usually see the viejitos this far north, so it's nice once in a while. one of their guys handed me a flyer for their annual show in july. already planning to go to that one again. other side explained why they weren't at the monthly location last time i drove by...they've moved it to a different address.

wondering who they are mourning here...

bevy of chevys

ok, one more from the old memories show, then i'm gonna put up a few from yesterday's solitos show.

i think all of the cars in this shot are old memories' cars. i liked the "patina" on this one. evidence that this isn't the original hood ornament either.

oh, and happy father's day to my dad. he mostly can't hear what i say anymore. i think i'm on a different frequency...to which my better half would probably agree...so i'll just write it here, since i know he peeks once in a while. i'll take him out to dinner in a couple of days, when it isn't so crowded at the restaurants. i don't follow the holiday rules anyway.

celebrate your parents everyday. who knows how much time you will have them. i hope they know that i love them, though we have a tough time saying it to each other. stiff upper lip or something.

plain and simple

rather like when cars don't get all the bells and whistles that muck up the lines of the car.

last shot before i left the old memories show. sun was high and i was melting.

it is quite nice when the car is buffed to a fine shine. just don't like how it always captures my reflection as well as the lovely tripod.

strike a pose

quick post to start today. upon returning to town yesterday, i went back out to the solitos show down the street. got there after noon, so i suspect a lot of cars had come and gone already.

anyway, i'll get to those cars after a few more from the harbor show.

noting this one, as i hadn't seen any pontiacs in the church lot, and spied it on the way back to my car. always stop to shoot the hood ornaments. as i was pulling out my camera, this lady come out of the house, saying it was her car, and jokingly saying to take a picture of her with her car. ok, why not?

opting not to pull out the other camera, this one had the 100mm lens on it, so i would have had to back up half way down the block to get the whole car in the shot. besides, i had left my bag and tripod in the way, so i hope she doesn't mind this snap of her and her car. you're infamous now, as i don't post too many peeps and their cars here. but you asked, so here you are. nice to meet you, and thanks for letting me snag a picture of your hood ornament.

more to come

i received a request to see some of the club's cars from last week, so i'll post a few. been very busy, and was out of town, so i've been unable to get back to the pictures until now.

first picture i took of the day. up at the front. hard to miss a red car, so i didn't. sky was so wonderfully overcast this early, but soon burned off.

i'll add a few more tomorrow.

----

by the by, i must share that i've had some pictures accepted for the orange county fair again. six to be exact, but only a couple that i had really hoped, and the rest, as usual, no rhyme or reason why they like one over another. and not all car related. as a co-worker said when i told her..."yay, i get to play where's waldo looking for the others..." sorry riverside gary, they didn't choose yours...or yours, armando.

i'll just add any others down here at the bottom.
