    screw it, here's a chevy

    1945 chevy

so i like old chevys better than the rest. been a while, so i'm posting one.

saw this one last night when i gimped around the ruby's show in whittier—hadn't been since last year. i saw it cruise past me fairly silently while i was shooting another chevy. they went down the aisle and under the caution tape...sadly thought they were leaving, then realized they were just taking a shortcut to another aisle.

i've learned that if i really want to shoot a car, i need to go find it pretty quickly, in case they decide to drive away again. so i headed over the two rows to where they'd parked. it had hydraulics in it, so here it is dropped down a bit. later, i got my better half to come over and admire it. he'd upped the front end by then for some reason, but i took that one too. didn't think that one was so interesting, so here's my favorite of the few i took.

it was mostly overcast, so the sky here is almost as silvery as the car, but the sunset was still peeking through here and there. there weren't so many cars as i'd usually see here, and my foot was starting to ache, so we didn't stay until full sunset.

the owner did come over to ask about where he might see the pictures. said he goes to lots of shows, but i don't recall ever seeing this one before. hope i see it again, in another setting, and without my foot distracting me from getting a good shot.

    shine on

    1946 pontiac hood ornament

so a quick post. just here to grab some clothes and head to my mom's. better half thinks i have a cold. really just a nasty sounding cough, but no fever or other symptoms. to make him feel better, i'm going to stay away all weekend. pretty sure the house will be fumigated with lysol after i go; he's very protective of his mother and stuff.

guess i'll sleep and keep my stupid foot up. they say it's not broken, but there is something going on in there. going to a podiatrist on monday. hope it's nothing terrible—going to see my daughter in a week.

sorry, i don't have a car ready to post. i like pontiac hood ornaments. this is one of my favs, from last summer's uptown show. i like the crackly surface on some of them. even better when you can get the light shining through them.

that thing that looks like a light shining down behind it is really just the open hood of the car next to it. obviously, i didn't take a picture of that one.

ok, my bags are packed, just need to back up the latest pictures i've shot this week, and i'll be off. i'm sure you'll survive without me.

    quick stop

    1954 chevy bel air

i've been working so many hours this past week, that i hadn't even been home until last night. stayed at my parent's house, which is closer to the office, but the mattresses there are so fred flintstone. and to top it off, i ran out of the spare clothes i keep in a closet, and almost had to wear my mom's clothes to work. not ready to give in to that yet, so ended up wearing pants i'd worn on tuesday and a clean shirt that happened to be there.

had to go in to the office today to meet some deadlines before i head to san fran for some business meetings later next week. i'd been told about this show off imperial and valley view, but it wasn't supposed to start until 10am. i headed out later to the office than i'd hoped, but earlier than start time for the show, hoping some cars would be there at least. mostly just stalling on going to work, i really didn't want to, but things have to get done. at least i didn't have to be there at any particular time.

there were a couple of clubs there, midnight oldies and the solitos. this one belongs to the solitos. you can see the guys' reflections on the side, as they had their tent right next to it. oh well.

but i had to shoot it from this angle...just look at the clouds. and hey, earlier equals no people walking into my shot. so yay.

hey to the guy who said he had gotten up before six in the morning to clean his car and put it back together. get some sleep.

so, i finished the things i needed to do at the office, and won't have to work tomorrow...any good shows going on ?

wind in my hair, sun on my face...

    1955 chevy

i'm a bit behind on posting. several shows behind in sharing. plenty of cars for rainy days waiting in the wings.

funeral is over, family leaving town, so back to business as usual. and i have been so busy at work. so i'll post some cars from the last few shows i've been to belonging to people who talked to me, and even a few who'd admitted to knowing that i like the hood down, and could prove they'd been reading this drivel, by quoting some of my blather back to me.

here's the first from last week, when i hit three shows in one day. only took a couple of pictures at the show at original mikes in santa ana. it was so windy there, and palm fronds were falling arbitrarily. only a few cars i was interested in shooting there, but i do try to take at least one shot, when i take the time to drive out.

i've seen the owner of this chevy around fairly often, but this was the first time he'd stopped to ask about what i was doing. i liked the shadows playing over the shiny surface.

    “praise the lowered”

    chevy special deluxe

    praise the lowered

i had an excellent weekend, but its come to an end. found out my former father-in-law had passed just a few hours ago. i was at a car show at the time, of course. my daughter will be flying in tomorrow, my son has a bummer start to spring break.

he was 90. it was expected, but still, not the end that was wanted. always nice to me, though i could never have a full conversation with him—he only spoke spanish—he had no idea who i was the last time i saw him, six months ago.

anyway, it's almost eleven p.m., and i've finally got my laundry done, and i'm undone, so i'll have to tell you of my weekend another day.

but i did really like this car. its for sale...now if i only had twenty five grand...
